Do you know what Lato is? That’s the green stuff in the pic. It’s a kind of seaweed that’s also called Sea Grapes or Philippine Caviar (naks!). I love eating this fresh with chopped onions and tomatoes and as a side dish to fried tilapia. Yummy.
One little bite of this is enough to experience the flavor of the sea explode in your mouth.

January 8, 2006 at 4:22 am (18 years ago)hey toni girl! happy new year to you and D! I’ve come back from the dead! I’ve just started doing the rounds of my favourite blogs! I have been away far too long! Dami kong na-miss na entries mo! I love the baked macaroni! Maybe I’ll cook that this week! Thanks for the inspiration! BTW, did you get our annual e-newsletter? Sorry no snail mail this time! Babawi na lang ako, pramis!

January 8, 2006 at 8:20 am (18 years ago)I like LATO a real lot! And I gathered them myself fresh from the pristine sea waters of my province in Surigao during my younger days.
I remember my Mom telling me that Lato is rich and good source of iodine– a good cure for goiter! Kaya tingnan mo wala ako nuon except my ‘Adam’s apple.’
Happy Three Kings, Toni!

January 9, 2006 at 6:42 am (18 years ago)star : This tastes like a flavorful kind of sea water. It’s hard to describe in words… you have to experience it firsthand! Happy New Year!
Sidney : Paparazzi says it is a good source of iodine. I hope your resolution comes true!
kat : Yey! I was wondering if anyone else was familiar with Beverly Hills Teens!
sha : Sana ang “baka” ay maging “talaga” 😀
Christine : Yes I did get the newsletter! Pasensya na’t di ako nakasagot! As usual ang galing nanaman magsulat ni S. Witty forever. Welcome back to you!
Paparazzi : Gathering them fresh must’ve been a great experience! And talaga, good source of iodine? Okay ha! It’s always a side dish of mine when I go to Dampa.
batjay : Ito yun, ito yun! The one that pops in your mouth! Mmmm!

January 11, 2006 at 2:33 am (18 years ago)oh yumm!! I hadn’t had any of these in ages. I think this is the same as what we call ar-arusep in ilokano. The vendors used to deliver these straight to my grandmother’s doorstep. Alam nilang pakyaw kaagad lahat ng tinda nila

JMom : Ar-arusep. You learn something new everyday! Wow, sarap namn, fresh deliveries right at your doorstep. I could eat this everyday!
missyosigirl : Bagoong isda = balayan sauce ba? Anchovy sauce? Kasi kung oo, my gaz ang sarap nun lalo na with a hint of calamansi. 😀
