What goes in a supplies basket?

My Supplies Basket -- am I missing anything?

Click on the image to see notes.

I posted about my Aunt’s supplies basket several months ago, and finally I put together my own. Having a central location for supplies has been a great help at home! When H needs a pair of scissors, he no longer has to look under the magazines and books strewn all over our living room. He just heads over to our supplies basket and there he’ll see the scissors. Now if only I could get him to put things back where he gets them! At least we no longer go on scavenger hunts when it comes to supplies.

The thing with baskets is that sometimes you’ll feel the urge to just throw stuff in. I’ve fallen prey to the comfort of just tossing pens into the basket after using them. The result is a mess of supplies. A messy supplies organizer — can you smell the oxymoron there? Put care in putting back the items into the basket too.

I can’t help feeling I’m missing something though. Hmmm. Could you make suggestions on what else would be great to include in this supplies basket? I’d appreciate it! 😉

My stepmom’s supplies box is a messy one cuz she’s a hoarder. There’s a plastic bag of used ribbons from gifts just waiting to be recycled. I have little brothers who often have art projects so there are crayons, pentel pens (most of them are dried up already!), oil pastels or craypas, art paper, all types of tape (scotch, double adhesive, masking, packing, electrical), fabric paint, painting brushes, patterned scissors. Perhaps when you and H have kids already, your supply box will be just as colorful and filled to the brim!

Thanks Cat! Ribbons and crayons are good ideas. I still have some crepe paper left from my Christmas wrapping frenzy; I should put them in here too. Thanks for reminding me about that. All those art materials are inspirational too! :)

I’m a hoarder so I have a cabinet full of these supplies. The common utilities like scissors and tapes are all in drawers. Ribbons have a drawer for themselves. Paper and notebooks are stored in boxes.

I suggest: colorful paper clips, pins if you have a corkboard, thumb tacks, a puncher, a measuring tape and a ruler. I’m sure I left out some other stuff but so far these are what I can think of that I don’t see in your basket.

Do you have a sewing kit? If not, sewing supplies basket would be very handy. Same goes with meds if you don’t have a medicine cabinet. :)

RIBBONS!!! I have ribbons at home but misplaced them. When I find them I’ll put them into the basket. Yes, thank you for that reminder.

I do have a sewing kit; I’ll make sure to put it into this basket too. Yey!!! Thank you Gracey!

hmm, i have gift bags there, too. some unused gift and greeting cards din. :)

naku, that’s my problem, too. my supplies basket starts out nice and orderly… tapos after a while, kung ano ano na ang laman, it gets just as difficult to find what one needs. tapos yun nga, often, stuff don’t find their way back pa, haaay….

Yun ang mahirap, the stuff don’t find their way back! Hahaha.

I also have a box full of supplies – used and unused. We almost have the same items but mine have diff kinds of papers, post its, crayons, colored pens, pentel pens, board markers, highlighters and gelpens. So whenever we need some artsie artsie stuff, we just need to go to our own “National Bookstore”. Hehe 😉

That’s cute, your own little NBS. 😀

I suggest get a supplies organizer … one which has designs for every supply so that you don’t just toss things in … I can’t have a basket since I literally have a huge supply of stuff.

    I’ll consider that. Thanks!

i like collecting supplies, even though I don’t use them all. hmmm, are there any post-it pads and paper clips in this basket? do you have a corkboard–so perhaps a box of tacks?

I’ve also come up with a separate “gift wrapping” supplies box–ribbons, gift tags, papel de hapon

I don’t have a corkboard; I do like the paperclips idea. Should get a box soon. And that giftwrapping box of yours is cool!

i actually have several supplies baskets in our room, but for the basket on my desk, i also included a cutter, paper clips, small scraps of paper held together by a clamp and some letter envelopes.

i also have a plastic container for my gift wrapping needs like tags (christmas, kiddie bday, adult bday), notecards, ribbons, some embellishments for gift wrapping, etc.

Thank you for those ideas Pat!!

A set of screwdrivers with different tips. I got mine from Muji years ago
    Tape measure (carpenter kind)
