Weekend Soiree #11: A game of comment interaction

by

I remember when...

The rules are easy. I will ask a question. The first person who comments will answer my question, and will leave a question for the next person to answer. This next person will answer that question, and leave a question for the next next person to answer. I am sure you get it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

To make things more fun, the questions have to reflect the chosen theme. For example, if the theme is MUSIC, all questions should be relate to anything music-y. Do you listen to music while you’re in the shower? What song never fails to take you back to high school? As much as possible, letโ€™s not repeat the questions for added fun! You are also welcome to play more than once!

Letโ€™s go a little sentimental for our eleventh weekend soiree!

The theme: CHILDHOOD

My question for Person #1: If you were to give advice to your four-year-old self, what would you say?

My eldest brother. He influenced me with books, music and to excel in school. We were the best of friends and even took me with him when he went out with his high school friends. Not many younger siblings get that lucky. He’s 5 years older than me.

Q: What is your best childhood memory? Tell us why.

i have lots. :) but one of my favorite memories is watching flordeluna with all the women in my family on a small black and white tv, and no one is allowed to talk unless its a commercial break. :) its also the same with gulong ng palad.

so, its no wonder why i am such a telenobela junkie now. :)

question: of your childhood, which particular thing would you wish your children to experience also?

Playing in the great outdoors. Nowadays, kids are so hooked on the tube, computers, and the mall. I’m trying to instill in them the love of nature and playing and getting their hands dirty.

Question : What was you favorite game (patintero, agawan base, jackstones, chinese garter..stuff like that) when you were a kid?

i loved almost all games that involved running and jumping, like hide and seek (especially at night), korikit, agawan base, patintero, harangang-taga, and mataya-taya, which explains why i have all sorts of scars in my knees from all the rough-play. but aside from these what i really liked was when my cousins, friends and i create our own games. we’d think up of ordinary things and turn it into a game, such as cooking, when everyone turns into an ingredient and run for their lives since the cook is coming ๐Ÿ˜€

There are many toys that I enjoyed during childhood. These are the things that I can remember. I have a vinyl doll, which I named Luti; but unfortunately, my brother broke her neck so I don’t have it anymore. Huhuhuhuhu :) I also have a game and watch where mickey catches the falling eggs and I think this one just got over used and gave in. We live in the province and during those time telephones are available in my town. I have a toy telephone (two of them) which has a wiring connection and actually works like a real phone. It was amazing during those times!

Are there things in your childhood that you haven’t outgrown e.g. food, collectibles like hello kitty, habits like you can’t sleep without a stuff toy beside you or anything similar that you still eat, collect or do today?

I do. I can’t sleep tight without “BUNSOY” – my comfort pillow since I was a year old – on my head’s left side. I always bring him where ever I go. I simply can’t sleep without smelling her ( yeah, Bunsoy is a she) even though my mom keeps on implying that Bunsoy is pungent ( I change her case only twice a month, something that is below my mom’s hygeine standard, or is it also yours?)

Who is/are your favorite playmate/s then? Do you still see and spend time together these days?

My earliest memories of my playmates back then were my older cousins. They all have their own families now so I only get to see them during family reunions.

I did! When I graduated from grade school, I wanted to become a CPA Lawyer or a Chemical Engineer. Somehow, circumstances lead me to become a Chemical Engineer and I guess it’s meant to be. Just before I entered college, I thought of taking a different course but it was too late because I was already accepted in the Chemical Engineering program of the school where I want to study.

Did you want to become a superhero when you were a kid? If yes, who is that superhero?

Sure, I wanted to be one of the Superfriends. I used to watch it every Satuday morning, I get to sit in my dad’s big chair, positioned for the best view of the telly and my mum will make me snacks. Once in awhile Marcos will break the idle of my Superfriends Saturday mornings with one of his many self-serving speeches. Everyone would tense up when Marcos was on, and I would wish the Superfriends would make him go away. Eventually they did, but I think they called it People Power.

But what I really, REALLY wanted was to be Richie Rich, or his sister.

What was your first memory of a “foreign” land? That there are other places than the Philippines? Imaginary lands not included.

when i was a kid, all i wanted was to be a doctor or a nurse. i remember watching wonderwoman and darna wanting to be either but soon realized i don’t have any super powers so beating my brothers (my version of bad men at the time) with my bare hands suits me perfectly well.

Q: Overall, can you say that you have had a happy childhood?

childhood crush: a boy I went to school with from kindergarten all the way to 3rd year high school till we left Philippines. I had a crush on him at grade 2 till grade 6.

irony though both our families thought we would end up together,,, well at least he remained a good friend up to now … that over 30 years of friendship.

My Mom! I always tell her what happened to school, news and updates about my grades, teachers, and everything I could think of. My mom was young when she have me so I think that is the reason why we’re close. My dad is not so old naman but he was slightly strict and everything should be in order that’s why me and my siblings have this “naku pag nalaman ni papa bka pagalitan tyo” factor in us. But Papa has changed now. ๐Ÿ˜‰

we were in class when my classmate (who i was told had a crush on me — and i disliked the idea) stood up to answer the teacher’s question. i pulled the stool right before he sat and you know what happened next… i felt so bad afterwards and sent him a sorry note.
