Red Ribbon Black Forest Cake: A trip down memory lane

by

Growing up, Red Ribbon’s Black Forest cake was what I regarded as “the grown-up’s cake”. It looked quite sophisticated – dark chocolate shavings set against white frosting, then topped with more dollops of cream and dotted with red cherries. It’s been awhile since I’ve had it, so when a friend from Red Ribbon shared that there’s a “chocolatier” Black Forest, I figured I’d give it a try.

My husband and I got the junior-sized Black Forest Cake (P350). When I opened the box and saw the familiar dark brown, white and red cake, memories came rushing back. (Don’t you love how food does that?)

Black Forest Memory Bites

I remembered one of my first bites of this cake back when I was a kid. How grown up I felt. It looked and tasted different from the usual mocha birthday cakes that would be served during family birthday parties. Traditional Black Forest cake, if I recall correctly, had brandy in it. The cake was soaked in the brandy (a certain kind distilled from cherries). Whether that’s true for the Red Ribbon cake or not, I don’t really know! (If there are any folks from Red Ribbon reading this, could you let us know? :) )

Rich and indulgent chocolate to the core.

I always thought Black Forest was just a cake until I was 13, when my high school seat mate showed me pictures of her family’s Europe travels. She pointed out a picture of woods and hills, sharing that it was called the Black Forest. It looked like something straight out of a fantasy book.

But back to the cake.

A slice for you.

This Black Forest came from Red Ribbon is quite mouth-watering. If you’re a chocoholic, you’re bound to love this. Chocolate shavings, chocolate filling and a chocolatier cake. Yum! Its decadence will definitely level up any event you bring it to.

Heck, it could level up a quiet afternoon of tea and reading. That’s how I enjoyed my slice.

A delicious kind of peace and quiet.

If you want a little fun thing to enjoy, Red Ribbon released an animated short called “A Red Ribbon Tale: Si Emman at ang Chocolate Forest”. It’s a cute story about a little boy named Emman’s adventure inside the Chocolate Forest. It was released last Christmas, but since Christmas never gets old, you’ll still enjoy the short. Timmy and I sure did!

My son super enjoyed that short. We watched it three times in a row. There would’ve been a fourth but we had to leave for school already. He particularly liked the red cat. Can’t blame him — it’s so cute!

As for my son and the Black Forest cake, he’s partial to the chocolate shavings. Again, I can’t blame him. They’re yummy. Look!

If you’re feeling romantic this Valentine’s, you’ll get a kick knowing that this Black Forest cake also comes in the shape of a HEART. <3 <3 <3 Go check out their website. The heart-shaped Black Forest cake can make quite the romantic present!

The Red Ribbon Black Forest Cake is available in 3 variants — per slice, Junior size (P350), and Regular size (P550). Here’s how the junior looks like:
