“Bun on the Run!” H exclaimed as we were walking around Metrowalk. “Do you remember that?”
“Oh yeah!” I replied. “My Dad would take home brownies from that shop before. Ang sarap sarap.” I remembered the chocolatey goodies I enjoyed very much as a kid.
“Have you tried their Chori Burger?” H asked as we started walking the kiosk.
“Huh? No,” I said. And that was all the encouragement H needed to walk faster towards the store.
Apparently, the Chori Burger is a classic BotR sandwich. Have
you tried this yet? I really don’t remember eating this from way back. But I have a bigger question. Did Bun on the Run disappear and is this a comeback? Or am I just misinformed and it’s been there all along? I wonder. Anyway, H and I ordered a Chori Burger each and french fries. It seemed like a promising afternoon snack. I settled comfortably in my chair and waited for our orders to arrive.

One bite and… “Ang alat!!!” I groaned. It was so salty! But what would I have expected anyway? It’s a Chori Burger. Chorizos are salty. But don’t they have a crumbly, meaty taste? This was Salty Burger, not Chori Burger. I was really disappointed. Buti nalang may fries. H enjoyed his though. But honestly, I think he was enjoying his own trip down memory lane more than the actual taste of the burger. I asked him how he found the sandwich. He shrugged and said, “Chorizo.” Fair enough.
But c’mon. Let’s go over chorizos for a bit. Philippine chorizos, a.k.a. Longganisa, are quite tasty. The taste varies from region to region; some are sweeter, some are more garlicky, some are spicier than the other. They probably all have salt in it too. But their signature tastes and flavors are always balanced. I’m suddenly craving for Longganisang Lucban. And Purefoods’ Chorizo de Bilbao. If chorizos from other countries were the peg for this burger, I’m certain those chorizos wouldn’t have been this salty either.
Sayang, it looked good pa naman. I would’ve loved a meatier, smokier chorizo taste. I washed away all the saltiness with bottles of mineral water. Kakainis! Na-bitin ako. I’m not going back there. But if they bring back those gooey chocolate brownies from my childhood, well, I might change my mind.

Lots of eateries now with chori burger. But there are also ready made chori burger patties now in the groceries now so no problem, you can make your own sandwich at home. Try Mother Earth:)

May 2, 2007 at 1:28 pm (16 years ago)ok. the chori burger is the saltiest messiest yummiest burger in town during the early 90s (they had a stall near the Greenbelt cinemas) and yes, you’re right, the most popular choco crinkles not made from your grandma’s kitchen.
iba na ang panlasa mo toni, pag tumatanda and when we all purged ourselves of all the salt, this type of food is really a turn off. sabagay di mo naman aa-raw arawin.

i remember the mayo from these sandwiches would always squirt out of the bun on my first big bite,
land on my pants, to my date’s amusement and my never-ending embarassment.
then the crumbs would float gently down and cover my shirt.
this is how i watched Ghost, Pretty Woman, The Untouchables, Dangerous Liaisons, and Dirty Dancing back in the old Greenbelt…. covered with CHORIBURGER!!!

I remember that one in Unimart.. tapos they closed.. then i discovered the one in front of Miriam on Katipunan. Then they closed. Man.. I would love to have some of those burgers!!!
but sad about that chori burger… chorizo’s are mostly sweet.. and not that salty at all. that’s sad!

I’ve been to Metrowalk only three times… medyo malayo kasi. But if I see a Bun on the Run store, I wonder if I’ll avoid the choriburger, or have curiosity get the better of me? Hmmm….

You made this lurker come out her cave and comment yet again. I love Bun on The Run… my favorite then was the Pork Loin and crinkles. I would frequent the one by Greenbelt Mall and I think there was also a branch by the old Love Bus Depot (which has been converted to GB2). BOTR Pork Loin (with lotsa, lotsa coles slaw) and a pint of ice cream everytime I watch the movies at GB! Pork Loin was 18 bux back then.

May 5, 2007 at 1:31 pm (16 years ago)wow, thanks for posting this. i love bun on the run! ang favorite ko is yung porkloin. you should try it toni. they use to have a stall at glorietta 4 near the cinemas & also sa alabang town center, and everytime i watch movies, dalawang porkloin sandwiches ang nauubos ko. i was so sad nung bigla silang nag-disappear. movies without my fave bun on the run meal is not as enjoying. i remember i researched pa nga sa internet kung anong nangyari sa bun on the run, but could not find any article relating to why they closed down their stores. im so happy they’re back. sana mag-open din sila ng store sa makati. that will definitely be on top of my list when i go home sa pinas. i’ll indulge in my fave porkloin burger!!!! woohooo!!! =)

The one I saw was at TriNoma and I couldn’t let the chance pass up without having a taste of their classic burgers! My friends and I ordered their Chori Burger and we all agreed it was delicious. I didn’t think of it as salty probably coz if I remember correctly, that’s really how their Chori Burger tasted even before.

November 13, 2007 at 8:53 am (16 years ago)choriburgera are easy to do at home.. just buy your fave kind of longganiza.. i like the hamonado type. the skin less type.. flatten it. pan fry it.. top it with lettuce and mayo.. on a hamburger bun and while doing this u can top it with ur choice of cheese, egg, etc…:)

I spent my 4 years in college ( i studied in Makati) with Bun on the Run. I sooo love their cookies/bars! Did they bring them back as well? I will most definitely visit Bun on the Run when i come back!

I was an avid fan of botr why? coz i worked there during my college days hehehehe! mostly 3/4 of my college days was a part of botr and i thanked that ! of course i love the sandwiches. The best for me is SPICY SAUSAGE WITH ALL THE TOPPINGS
then the SMOKED PORKLOIN and of course The Choriburger. I love also their pizzas coz its thin but super crunchy and super delicious! I love also the chocolate chip cookie, chocolate walnut cookie and the banana bar hahahaha! i miss bun on the run before! I was there from may 16, 1991 until feb. 1995. I left them late of feb. 1995 coz for a reoson… magulo ang sistema kaya cguro nawala na sila. Walang swerte sa tao coz mga kurakot hehehehe! i was hired in Thank God its’ Fridays and it was newly opened that time! i’ve been to Katipunan where it was my training ground then forwarded to Greenbelt Junction … the lower branch of Greenbelt Cinema. That time botr was only a kiosk or rather good for take out. We only have katipunan branch that time for dine in. But because of the success of the BOTR, they began adding foods like rice toppings, remember? The Belgian waffles with smoked porkloin topped with cream cheese OMG i super duper love it! The death by chocolate! as my favorite dessert! It’s a huge portion of brownies 9 the one that you love) with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream then topped with chocolate syrup oh my!!!!!!!!!! I miss the gelatos also. They have pistachio ice cream, rhum and raisins etc… i miss them all and i miss the old greenbelt where parking is not a problem hahahaha! I was always startrucked by famous personalities coz they were a fan of BOTR. i remember Mr. jaime Zobel de Ayala who wears shorts and tshirt at tsinelas pumipila sa min. Syang talaga kaya when i discovered botr for its comeback last 2007 in metrowalk? grabe nangilabot ako kasi super miss ko na talaga ang mga sandwiches nila hahaha! I thank BOTR coz they helped me out reaching my dreams. im now 35 and still always proud saying to the service crew of botr that i worked there, 18 yrs. ago haaaaaay tagal na pala :). The bosses nga pala of botr that time were Sir carlito, frederico and minnie. mag kakapatid silang lahat at lahat mababait!
