Timmy the Turnip

by

TurnipAt 17 weeks, Timmy is the size of a turnip, about 5 inches long and 5 ounces. This little turnip can move his or her joints. The umbilical cord is growing stronger and thicker. S/he can sense sounds too. Thanks again to my favorite baby sites and baby books for this information!

Baby, is that you? I’ve been feeling little twitches in my belly. Is that the baby? My friends said feeling the baby’s early movement is similar to tickles and snaps (“pitik” more specifically). I guess this little turnip’s stretching here and there now!

And we shall present sitting down. I had my first presentation with my almost-heavy belly last Friday. Three minutes into my talk, I was running out of breath! And my voice was cracking! It alarmed my teammates, but not as much as it alarmed me! So I gave the rest of my presentation sitting down, and I felt much better. Woah. That was a major revelation to me.

The clothing dilemma begins. I never really liked wearing dresses, but now I find them utterly comfortable and mandatory. While my jeans still fit, I can feel them getting snug. I’ve also bought new undergarments, because I’ve been bursting out of my old ones. The support is much better now, whew. And if only I could come to work in my pajamas! They’re just so comfortable.

Green cravings. I get the question “Ano pinaglilihihan mo?” a lot. First trimester, I craved for beef a LOT. I’m on my second trimester, and I’ve been craving for vegetables a lot. I don’t like rice. I can only eat at most a half cup a day. Sometimes I don’t eat rice at all. But I load up on fruits, vegetables and whole-wheat crackers, bread. Good for the me and the baby!

That’s this week’s Timmy update. Stay tuned for next week’s! Can you guess what fruit or vegetable the baby’s size will be compared to? 😉

Wow, a turnip – I can’t work out if that seems bigger than I’d have expected or smaller! (being completely inexperienced in all things ‘baby’) It must be very exciting, even if you do have to give your presentations sitting down :)

Since this post, I gave two presentations standing up and I was fine! If it doesn’t last more than 3 minutes, I can handle it. But more than that and a seat is needed! 😀

The fact that you’re not craving rice is incredible! Glad you’re loading up on the good stuff, though! Maybe it’s because you’re likening Timmy to turnips! (At least for this week!) Good luck, Toni! One week (and vegetable size!) at a time now!

It’s good that you’re eating healthy foods like fruits & vegetables. However, gaining weight is vital during pregnancy so best to load up on carbs as well. And don’t forget protein for the baby’s development! :)

A carrot? They get longer and bigger.

Just take it easy and please, no heels. Ballet shoes should be fashionable and comfortable.

That’s either Timmy or your belly stretching to make more room for Timmy. Either way, definitely Timmy-related yung mga nararamdaman mo! :) Whoo-hoo! 😛

Hi Toni! While you’re at it, eat lots of malunggay, it will help you later for lactation.

I hope I have the same tolerance as you when it comes to rice 😀 My best record would be 2 weeks without rice lol. Ingat kayo ni baby! 😉
