Say we’re in Starbucks. What would your drink look like? I stumbled upon this interesting link. Create your Starbucks drink, see how it looks like and if you’re lucky enough (translated: there are supplies), you can get your drink on a complimentary t-shirt. I had fun playing around with the choices, but this is how my typical Starbucks drink is. Decaf depends on the time of day, though. I was surprised to find Chai Tea Latte as part of the choices! I love Chai, but Starbucks here doesn’t carry it. Ah well, a Cafe Latte would have to do for now. The T-shirt looks so awesome too. The designs are by Mychael Knight, one of the contestants from the third season of Project Runway (no, not the one with the car named Kit). It would be interesting to walk into Starbucks and just point at your chest when the barista asks what your order is. Just don’t get too offended if they stare a little too long, you asked for it after all. Now what would your drink look like?
While we’re talking about Starbucks, have the baristas ever misspelled or mispronounced your name? I’ve been called Connie, Pony, Dony. My friends have given names like Ligaya (of the local movie “Ligaya Ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin”), Nimfa, Adonis… I forgot the other names. They’re usually funny names with back stories. I’m sometimes tempted to give a false name to avoid misspellings and mispronunciations. Nothing fancy, something simple like Michelle or Marie. But knowing myself I’d probably forget about that a minute later and end up upset while I wait for my real name to be called, only to realize that the Cafe Latte that has been getting cold labeled “Michelle” near the bar was mine all along.

March 1, 2007 at 3:53 pm (17 years ago)Grande Cappuccino please…add a dash of cinnamon and 2 packets of brown sugar…voila!
But here in Canada, its Cafe Mocha by Tim Horton’s. It’s like Jollibee in Canada, Starbucks is like McDo, its a far 2nd.

March 1, 2007 at 4:01 pm (17 years ago)I’ve always been a Mocha Frap girl. I’ve never thought of giving a different name at Starbucks. But I’m sure your friends had fun hearing their fictional names said aloud.

March 1, 2007 at 4:04 pm (17 years ago)Junnie: Wow! Isn’t that sweet? Parang ikaw? Hehehe. 😉
rach: Yeah they have fun with it! I don’t do it though because I don’t want to mock the baristas. Hehehe. The stories they tell are funny though!

March 1, 2007 at 4:31 pm (17 years ago)I seldom go to Starbucks and when I do I’m always with hubby, so I make him order. No way they can misspell his name, while mine… well I can’t blame them, weird talaga pangalan ko 😀
I usually get a caramel macchiato because I love its sweetness, or tea.

March 1, 2007 at 4:34 pm (17 years ago)Oh and I know some people who would give their names as “Eva” or “Life” so that the barista would shout out, “Mocha Frap for Ever!” or “Hot chocolate for Life!”

March 1, 2007 at 5:37 pm (17 years ago)im always tempted to give a false name too…trip lang…but end up forgetting when i am finally asked. hehe. i did give Julie’s name once, coz it’s her drink anyway, and when it was called, she asked me “mama, how do they know my name?” cute noh?
i haven’t been having starbucks in so long. i’m so into local singaporean coffee na. that’s why when i go to starbucks or similar coffee chains, I look foward to the desserts! yumm!

March 1, 2007 at 10:24 pm (17 years ago)caramel macchiato for me, please.
i usually just say my name, pero sa mga gusto kong linlangin sa ibang pagkakataon, Lisa ang binibigay kong pangalan, madaling sabihin. one time, akala ng kausap ko HAPPY pangalan ko, i’m like, ngek!

March 2, 2007 at 12:19 am (17 years ago)I don’t like coffee anymore, gives me indigestion but there was a time oooh when I loved frappuccinos. Woody prefers their tea as well. One time they had green tea frappuccino. So good.

March 2, 2007 at 1:43 am (17 years ago)my drink is always a tall, 2% mocha, no whip, no foam. in the summer i get it iced or a java chip frap…. *drool* alas, at $3.21 a pop, i can’t afford one everyday and can only get it during the weekends. i am such an addict though.
p.s. thank you very much for e-cards! i’ve been remiss at sending one back, but please now i appreciate your thoughtfulness!

March 2, 2007 at 11:10 am (17 years ago)I tried for almost the entire month of Feb to get a free shirt but to no avail! I’m not even sure why I wanted one, I don’t like some of the fonts used. My drink is a Grande Cafe Mocha with soy, 1 shot of raspberry. If it’s summertime, I’ll get the same in a Frap but no whip cream. If it’s a new place or barrista, I have to specify the 1 shot because with Grande they usually give more.
I usually give my initial M. One of my best friend with the name of YouKnowWho Marcos always gives Fred!

March 2, 2007 at 12:03 pm (17 years ago)back in college.. i used to give the name “loca” and obviously it got stuck. 😀

March 2, 2007 at 4:19 pm (17 years ago)I remember one time, they wrote my name as “i”, hahaha! So usually, tinuturo ko na lang yung mata ko para siguradong tama. Hehe!
Cafe Mocha, Non-fat milk, no whip, for me. For cold, the raspberry tea frap w/o cream. Mas madali nga kung nasa t-shirt na lang kasi ang daming restrictions 😀
petite
March 2, 2007 at 9:13 pm (17 years ago)a tall hot caramel macchiato (easy on the caramel) for me, please…
pag mainit ang panahon, i have a sweet shaken iced green tea with lemonade…so yummy and refreshing!
my nickname seems to be difficult for baristas/ticket sellers/reservations people to write or spell, so much more for my christian name…so i usually just tell them to “write my husband’s name…it’s mark”.
jey
March 2, 2007 at 10:09 pm (17 years ago)grande java chip frap with lots of chocolate sprinkles! and i must admit, i often don’t use my name. pag inis sa boss, pangalan niya gamit ko. hehe =)

March 3, 2007 at 1:44 pm (17 years ago)i use my second name because for some reason, other people always hear my first name as “shirley” or “sheryl”. hehe.
when it’s hot outside, my staple drink is a venti coffee jelly, light, no whipped. when i want to “defrost” from the winter wonderland temperature of our office, i order a caffe latte with non-fat milk. i add another shot when it’s a sleepy day hehe.
i just watched the first ep of the third season of project runway, and mychael knight ba was the hiphop designer? although i know who’s going to win na (hehe, love reading recaps kasi), it’s good to know one of the runner up designers are doing good as well
missyosigirl
March 3, 2007 at 1:46 pm (17 years ago)ahh, just to add, try nga using the name “Free” haha.
The barista then will say after preparing your drink: “Tall caffee latte for Free” 😛

March 4, 2007 at 7:21 am (17 years ago)I’m more of a tea drinker so I dont go to Starbucks often. When I do, I’d go for a Vanilla Flavoured Coffee. Two Sugars. No Milk.

March 4, 2007 at 8:13 am (17 years ago)Oh, I love Chai Tea Latte! That warmth, aroma and exotic spicy taste… it really hits the spot on a cold winter day. Give me 2 large cups of that… and a good book in a book store coffee shop… and I’m in heaven.
deepa
March 7, 2007 at 12:22 pm (17 years ago)with a name like deepa, it’s a miracle when baristas DO get it right!
which reminds me. during the height of the erap impeachment brouhaha, i went to starbucks once and heard a barista calling out: “erap resign… one mocha frappuccino for erap resign…”

March 9, 2007 at 2:33 am (17 years ago)Well, when I want something hot, I always order a White Chocolate Mocha and when I want something cold, I order Mocha Frappucino with Mint Syrup. Ah, but now I have an addiction. It’s a chocolate powder mix (with milk and sugar already so all you have to do is just add hot water) called Dutche. Tastes just like melted tablea. I always have a cup every day.
As for the name, I haven’t tried a fake name but my sister used “Darna”. The male barrista didn’t want to shout it out. We had to ask “For who???” and he just mumbled it out of embarrassment. =P
