Dark chocolate, I have heard, is good for the heart. It’s all those antioxidants, right? Black sesame seeds, I have also heard, are good for your health. Again, it’s all those antioxidants. Now put those two together — black sesame seeds in dark chocolate brownies. Wow, that sounds interesting. Healthy AND interesting! This was precisely the first thought that came to mind when a group of students/budding entrepreneurs shared this idea of theirs with me. Black Sesame Seed Brownies sound positively tempting, don’t they?
Upon opening a box of these chocolatey samples, I found the brownies looking quite different. I’m used to seeing chocolate flakes and chips on brownies, but now that there were sesame seeds coating the top, I became a little bit hesitant. I was suddenly reminded of a burger. But hey, chocolate is chocolate, and Dark Delights’ positioning of having sesame seeds in these babies was intriguing. It did entice me to give it a try.At first, the taste of the sesame seeds didn’t appeal to me. There was a certain aftertaste the sesame seeds gave which I found unpleasant. I also found the chocolate a little grainy — must’ve been the sesame seeds mixed into the fudge. The Belgian chocolate won me over though, and I eventually enjoyed the moist chewiness of the brownie.
If there was a tagline for this snack, it would be “Give us another chance after that first bite.” The flavor grows on you, so don’t chuck that brownie after that first chomp. This was a unique concoction after all, hence its unique texture. And while it wasn’t so bad, one square of the brownie was enough for me, as it was very rich!
I really admire students who think out of the box and accept customer feedback very well. The Dark Delights team is definitely a group to watch out for. Aside from these unique brownies, they also sell black sesame seed cheesecakes and chocolate bars. Check out their website for more details about their goods. Perhaps you can consider these healthy chocolatey goodies during your Christmas shopping too!

December 20, 2007 at 12:23 am (16 years ago)don’t know if I would like black sesame seeds on my brownies. Why not just DARK chocolate brownies with the usual walnuts or macadamia nuts or coconut flakes? Or, if they want healthy— sunflower seeds, maybe?
