Mama’s Lobster in Orange Sauce

Mama's Lobster in Orange Sauce

“Sunday is Family Day.” That’s how I grew up. Even during my gimmick years (twas a long time ago), I’d stay home while my barkada frolicked in the beach or stayed out late at bars. The few times I’d go with them there was always a gnawing feeling in my stomach. I liked spending Sundays with my family, even if we just each did our own thing around the house (Mama would play the piano, Daddy would garden, my sisters would watch TV, I’d use the computer…) and then converged during mealtime.

Since I got married, I haven’t spent that many Family Sundays with them. H & I are a little family too after all. But it’s different to go back to your old home and hang out with the folks like the good ol’ days. I treasure Family Sundays now more than ever.

Mama cooked up an extra special meal for us one Sunday–Lobster in Orange Sauce. Yummy! See more pics and the recipe below. :) Kain tayo!

Lobster in Orange Sauce

Is Sebastian a crab or a lobster?
1. Take a lobster, any lobster! Take as many as you want!

Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?...
2. Slice it in half. Season it with salt.

Use a spoon to peel ginger - it's safer than peeling it with a knife given the ginger's uneven proportions.
3. Slice some ginger…

The more garlic, the spicier.
4. …and chop some garlic. I love LOTS of garlic.

About 2-3 minutes over high heat.
5. Saute the garlic till it’s almost golden brown. Take a spoonful of the golden brown garlic out — save it for later.

6. Add the ginger into the saute.

7. Slide in the lobsters and mix it in with the garlic and ginger till the lobsters are almost cooked.

Remember the Joey-Jenny TV commercials?
8. Pour in about a cup and a half of Royal Tru-Orange (or your preferred orange juice).

Did you eat Star Rice? And if you did, did you grow taller?
9. Slide in a spoonful of Star Margarine (or your preferred butter/margarine).

Notyet done but almost! Almost now!
It’ll look like this! Let it simmer for a while. Taste the sauce to make your adjustments. I liked ours the way it was. If you’d like your sauce to be a bit thicker, dissolve a tablespoon of cornstarch in water and pour it into the mix.

Or use broccoli, asparagus, whatever rocks your boat.
Meanwhile, pour a pack of frozen veggies into boiling water and cook for about 5 minutes.

I couldn't resist hehe.
Ta-da! Spot the hidden Mickey! This goes well with the lobster dish.

The Finished Product
Sprinkled your reserved toasted garlic over the lobsters. Enjoy! I know I did. Thanks Mama!

Instead of lobster, you can also prepare this dish with shrimp. It’ll be just as yummy!

grabe, it looks so yum! kami rin, we always have family sunday dinners (or lunches depending on when we’re available) back in Pinas. I miss those! In NZ, we spend most Sundays together and have a special dinner (cooked by me of course!) for the 3 of us :-) So nice to have traditions like this ano?

It’s weird how after how much has changed, there will always be a designated “family” day of rest and relaxation. It’s hard to please respective families, but it is necessary so as to no offend right? I’m just glad ours exist!

mare: It’s sometimes hard to divide time between my own family and my in-laws, but I’ve kinda got into the groove of things so it’s easier to plan family days now!
