I wonder where this fruit gets its name from. Could it come from its deep fuschia color, akin to the color of dragons in cartoons? Could it come from the magnificent scale-like protrusions on its skin?
The skin may look tough but it is quite tender. I used a knife to start, but ended up peeling with my hands. It was faster that way. Did you know this fruit is rich in Vitamin C and fiber too?
Could the name of the Dragon Fruit come from its fierce-looking insides? The texture and the seeds reminds me of the kiwi fruit. You can cut the fruit in half and use a spoon to scoop the flesh out. Or as I did, you can slice the peeled fruit. Best serve chilled. I find it a bit bland, so it’s great to serve in a bowl along with other fruits.
Maybe there was a legend from where this fruit got its name. Could it have been part of a dragon? Is this a dragon’s heart? Did the dragon breathe not only fire but produce fruits? Ah, the possibilities. While we ponder them, let’s enjoy some chilled, sliced Dragon Fruit.
