And all I wanted to do was put my feet up

by

Have you ever had that super toxic work day that all you wanted to when you got home was drop onto the couch and stare into space? That happened to me some evenings ago. I was physically and mentally stressed out. I knew I had to eat dinner but was too tired to prepare anything. Staring into space seemed to be enough sustenance for me.

H hates it when I skip meals. “Kumain ka! (Eat!),” he would half-scold, half-beg. It’s for my own good health, I know, but sometimes I am just too tired to eat.

One particular evening, I was extra grouchy and extra drained. “I don’t want to eat. I’m gonna go play Sims,” I grumbled. H just smiled and said, “Okay! Just stay in the room alright?” Aha. Something was up. A few minutes later, he called me from the dining area. Here’s what he surprised me with:

Dinner from H

My comfort food! Fried rice, tuna flakes in some oil, an egg sunny-side-up, over-easy. Orange juice. Bananas and yogurt for dessert. And fried spring rolls from a previous dinner. Love on the dining table.

“I know you’re really tired, but you have to eat something,” he grinned, knowing I wouldn’t be able to resist the meal before me, simple in presentation but rich in thoughtfulness. Honestly, whatever he prepared for me, even if it was as simple as toasted bread or as grand as a roast, I would’ve been happy.

I did eat everything, not realizing how hungry I was after all. All I wanted to do was put my feet up that night. Instead, I got a full stomach and an even fuller heart, thanks to my wonderful husband.

In other news, my Mom’s getting surgery for her carpal tunnel syndrome tomorrow. I’d like to ask for prayers please, especially for an easy and comfortable recovery. While I’m confident everything will turn out great, extra prayers always help. :) Thank you in advance.

galit ako kay H – ginutom niya ako. Those are the very same comfort food I need now. Change the orange juice to Coke, add BBQ and yes, add a scoop of ice cream!

dearest toni girl and all your friends,

am recovering quite well thanks to your prayers and healing thoughts, and to my excellent ortho surgeon who did a really good job. can wiggle my fingers now so i know i’ve retained dexterity reqd for piano-playing. will see about wrist if still flexible when he removes knots at end of the 1.5-inch suture this saturday. sorry no caps where there shd be. difficult typing with left hand only. right hand is bandaged and in a sling.

toni girl, the pretty balloon arrangements are now on my grand piano.

    love to you all,
    mama

Yey! We will visit this weekend. Mwah mwah mwah.
