This blog isn’t dead, nor is my desire to update it. On the contrary, I’ve been wanting to update this blog every single day. I’d craft an entry in my head, but later on the words would fall through the cracks of a busy schedule and nappy changing. I miss blogging. So while I’ve got a whole stack of things to do, I think I need to blog for my own sanity. What better way to break the silence than an entry about food!
Last September 15, my sister, our friend and I attended Rockwell’s 2nd Ultimate Taste Test. Sounds yummy, ‘no? The UTT is a gathering of many concessionaires who give a free taste of their food and snack offerings. Some of these goodies are already in the market, others yet to be launched.
In a nutshell, we were food critics for a couple of hours! There were a lot of people going around the Rockwell tent. It felt comforting to be in the presence of so many food lovers. Here are some pics from that afternoon.
Each participants gets a score sheet. We rate each food on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the highest. The votes get tallied eventually, with the top concessionaires getting to be featured on the fabulous food blog, Our Awesome Planet. Way to go! The results will be out first week of October.
My sister and I are looking oh-so-excited. At the end of our foodie afternoon, we were stuffed! That’s when loose shirts come in handy. Heehee.
Every participant was given a food tray where we could place the samples from each concessionaire. When I was walking from stall to stall, I felt like one of those extras on Top Chef when the contestants would have a catering challenge. Haha.
One of my favorites was Kusina Reyes’ Aligue Rice. If rice could taste both savory and refreshing, this is it! So good.
Panchado’s was my TOP FAVE of the Ultimate Taste Test. This is pandesal with mechado, quezo de bola shavings and hot sauce. SUPER good. I wish I could have gotten seconds.
Another fave was Gigabyte’s Isaw. It was the perfect match for my SMB Premium. I haven’t had a beer in years. I was wary about which beer to try at the UTT. I’m glad I chose this one! It was smooth and so good. I wasn’t able to finish it though, but next time I will!
I ran into my old friend, Spanky of Manila Boy. The last time we saw each other was four years ago at a foodie get-together. We’re reunited many years later also at a foodie event. Funny!
My sis being interviewed by the funny host, foodie and comedian Tim Tayag. Now on to dessert!
One of my fave desserts was this Swiss Cheese Shave Ice from Masatami Shave Ice. 5 out of 5! Very cheesy, a little creamy and just the right texture for a shaved ice dessert. Very refreshing!
This caught me by surprise — liquor ice cream from Frisch. I tried the Vanilla with Vodka and Kahlua. Wow! That was good. I wasn’t able to finish the whole scoop though. This kind of ice cream though would be a perfect reco when you’re feeling in the dumps and are craving for something comforting. Instead of drinking alcohol or eating ice cream, why not do both? Frisch has the answer! All you’ll need is a good comedy to enjoy your bucket of liquor ice cream with.
But this was my favorite dessert of all — Mang Pedro Taho, in Pandan flavor. The pandan was subtle enough that you know you were still eating taho and not a pandan dessert. It was very comforting!
There were many more concessionaires but these were my favorites from that day. I can’t wait to find out who got the most votes! Find out on Our Awesome Planet this first week of October.
We were super happy at the UTT! We’ll definitely attend the next one. I wonder when it’ll be!

October 3, 2012 at 3:16 am (12 years ago)I wonder how the Liquor Ice Cream tastes like. I have not tried one before. How was the whole event? I could not imagine doing such because this activity might turn my stomach into a roller coaster ride.
