Tuna & Mushroom Spaghetti

by

From this...

I found some free time on my hands yesterday so I decided to clean my cupboard. I couldn’t believe how many goods have expired! Tsk tsk tsk. I haven’t been cooking in the past 3 weeks so I decided to change that. These were some of the unexpired goodies waiting for me in the cupboard. Obviously, pasta was the way to go.

What did I do? I just put the pasta in boiling water for 12 minutes and it was al dente. Then I sauteed the tuna in some oil, put in the mushrooms, sprinkled it with garlic powder and some dried basil, poured in the tomato sauce, some capers and olives. Left it to simmer for awhile. Then I mixed in the cooked pasta.

...to this!

Ta-da! It was delicious but sigh, fresh ingredients really is the way to go. I didn’t have onions or garlic on stock, nor did I have fresh basil. I didn’t even have cheese in my refrigerator! Oh oh oh. Time to go grocery shopping. Lessons learned: (1) Always make time to cook despite busy schedules, and (2) Stock up! This Tuna and Mushroom Spaghetti wasn’t bad for a 20-minute meal though. H enjoyed it! That’s good enough for me. :)

that’s the way to go…am a tuna nut and a spaghetti noodle freak…so mixing them together…ayus!

we used to do this too, sometimes, we’d have all the mixed and matched ingredients, put it into the Google search bar and see what recipe comes out….

You are the queen of cooking on the fly! I am not a good enough cook to drum up a dish with the leftovers in my cupboard.

toni sis, nakakagutom yung pic ng pasta mo 😀

ako naman, walang nag-eexpire sa pantry or ref. niluluto ko anything that i can find in there, and bahala na whatever kalabasan. ako pa, e sobrang galing ko magluto, hehe. so you can probably guess kung bakit madami kaming left-overs palagi 😛

yasmin: Shrimp paste? How interesting! Care to share the recipe?

jing: I cooked for two so I used up only a pouch of Del Monte Tomato Sauce (sorry, don’t know how much mL that is!). I wished I had used two though because the pasta ended up a bit dry. Yezzz, sobra siyang dali, perfect for emergency guests. I recommend though na lagyan mo ng fresh herbs and mix some parmesan cheese into the sauce. Wala kasi akong naka-stock at that time!
