Thoughts on Top Chef Season 7 Episode 13: Season Finale Part 2

by

If you have not seen the final episode of Top Chef, read no further. This post contains spoilers!

How’d you guys like this Top Chef episode? Here are my random thoughts. Would love to hear yours!

THE FINALE. THE SURPRISE FINALE.

I thought Ed was going to win. Didn’t you? He was pulling in so strongly the past few rounds and he seemed to give up during the last leg. From the episode, it was like he was blaming Ilan for him not performing the best he could.

This reminds me of Kevin and Preethi from last season. Hmmm.

And sick Angelo. Poor guy. I wonder what bug it was that he caught. He’s really lucky he got Hung to be his sous chef. Imagine if he got Ilan. Their visions don’t seem to be similar. And being injected in the butt? Seriously? Poor guy. It’s good that he was able to get up for the final round. I thought that if Ed wasn’t going to win, Angelo would take home the Top Chef belt (or toque).

But c’mon Angelo, pork and noodles don’t pass for a vegetable course. Not following directions ha. Too bad.

And back to Ed, dessert didn’t look like something a Top Chef would serve. It was homey but not refined. Yeah like I’m one to talk. I can’t even bake. But then again, I’m not vying for the title of Top Chef, even though I am beginning to get curious about those Dial Nutriskin products. (Damn product placement! I am being swayed!!!)

Kevin. Kevin Kevin Kevin. I am so pleasantly surprised and PROUD that he won. He really strategized very very very well. I love his Singapore Sling 2010 idea. The title’s a bit hokey but at least it gets the point across. I wish I were there in that restaurant when he served his dishes. The dragon fruit looked nice, but when Gail said there was a little panna cotta surprise at the bottom I was sold.

Panna cotta is the way to my heart. But this isn’t about me.

Kevin. Kevin Kevin Kevin. I am just amazed that you pulled through. The dark horse. The guy whose broccoli couscous was knocked over from one episode and immediately prepared a cauliflower couscous that was a winner. The guy who has a baby on the way. The guy who didn’t know how to work a wok even though he knew the finals would be in Asia.

What a surprise ending ‘no? He really poured his passion into each of the final dishes he prepared. It was a good win.

Tom Colicchio blogged that “Kevin’s food was the best we’ve had in any finale ever.”

Good for you Kevin! That means your food was better than Michael Voltaggio’s from last season! That means you are the Top Chef of all Top Chefs!!!

This season was all right for me. The more interesting challenges came towards the latter part of the season, e.g. CIA, NASA, Singapore! I think Season 6 is still by far my favorite.

Looking forward to another season of one of the best reality shows ever!

Sorry, but Kevin winning was really anti-climactic for me. I was rooting for Ed to win, or maybe Kelly (if she passed on to the finale 3) but while Kevin was consistent, I never really saw him as a serious contender. Ah, but still, I’ll pick Kevin any day over HOSEA. *UGH* Even he had a hard time remembering Hosea during the reunion episode.

Or maybe I didn’t see any of the chefs this season as serious contenders? It was an okay enough show, but I felt like it paled in comparison to other seasons.

I’m definitely looking forward to season 8 though. Rooting for Richard Blaise, Fabio (what, no Stefan? We need our bromance!), Stephen (pairing challenge please!), Dale Talde (represent!) and Jen! It would’ve been nice to see more finalists on the line-up (Bryan Voltaggio!) but I guess a part of me is happy that that irritating female finalist from Richard / Stephanie’s season wasn’t included.

Oooh, and eye candy Sam Talbot nowhere to be seen?

I was routing for Angelo or Ed to win this season, it was such a disappointment that they did not win, they were the ones who were consistently winning the challenges.

I thought Michael Voltaggio had a lot of influence on Kenny winning the final round :)
