Thoughts on Top Chef S6E11: A Ho-hum Reunion Dinner

by

If you have not seen Top Chef Season 6 Episode 11, read no further. This post contains spoilers!

How’d you guys like the Top Chef Reunion Dinner? Here are my random thoughts. Would love to hear yours!

  • Snooze. Sorry Top Chef, but it was kind of a boring dinner. Top Chef is about a competition, so even if you guys just planned a reunion dinner, maybe there could’ve been some of that competition involved. I dunno. I’m just a viewer. I guess what I’m saying is what’s Top Chef without a competition?
  • Yay for my favorites being there: Harold Dieterle, the grandfather of Top Chef and Richard Blaise, Top Chef’s Willy Wonka. Guess who I thought was missing? Sam! And Stephanie!
  • Is it me or was there too much focus on Marcel? On TV, he does seem like kind of a twat (as he said Stefan called him), but there must be other more interesting things worthy of airtime, eh? True, with the way he interacts with other contestants, he doesn’t seem to have matured from Season 2. Why indulge that though? He’s so annoying.
  • The look on Fabio’s face everytime Marcel would snap back at him  was priceless. He does not have a poker face! He looked seriously pissed each time! Haha!
  • Why are there three representatives from Season 3 (Dale, Casey, Hung) but only two from the rest of the seasons?
  • Hung in shades… CUTE! Harold gaining a bit of weight… CUTE! And I love Casey’s wavy hair!
  • Funny moment when Lisa shares what’s new with her. She answers she still has the same girlfriend. Er… I think Bravo meant culinary progress?
  • Love Dale’s sharing that he’s best friends and roommates with Sarah from his season. And that they have dogs. SO CUTE. Very Will & Grace.
  • Hung does look more laid back. Then he goes running in the kitchen later on and Harold goes “There’s the Hung we know and love!”
  • Stefan and Fabio loving was soooo funny. European affection, mwah mwah mwah. They’re really cute together. They should get an award for The Sweetest Top Chef Couple. No, Hosea and Lea don’t qualify for that.
  • Richard speculating is funny. And he really really misses the competition, he says. He should be a guest judge soon! Calling the Top Chef producers!
  • Fabio as host? He’s charming and fun. A little stiff and by the script though. Maybe he’s practicing for when he gets his own show.
  • “Carla, Fabio (holds up a small cucumber), Stefan (holds up a big cucumber).” — Stefan. “You wish.” — Carla. LOL!
  • Stefan impersonating Harold was cute too. I should re-watch his season. I thought Stefan was such a douche, but there’s a lot of humor in him. Okay mental note: Re-watch Season 5. Oh wait. I don’t think I can take re-watching the Hosea-Lea thing.
  • Tiffani calls Stefan a “lesbian opportunivore.” (Did I get that right?) He did give Jamie from his season a lot of love. Then he’s hanging around Tiffani this episode, before giving Lisa some attention. Hey, didn’t he like Andrea too? I don’t think she was lesbian though.
  • If it weren’t scripted, kudos to Fabio for standing up and reminding the chefs about why they were there when they started bickering about the past, etc.  “You all know the drill! Nobody twisted your arm to be here… Next time they ask you to do something like this, you say no!” Etc etc. Way to put the chefs in place Papa Fabio!
  • “Let’s talk about something positive.” — Harold Dieterle. YES! Please! Then they segue to the Stew Room stuff. Is that all that’s positive about the show?
  • And then… the end. What? We haven’t even reached the climax of the show! Wait, there’s no climax? Oh.

The dish I would love to have tasted: Richard and Lisa’s Corn Fed Beef, Duck Pate with Savory Root Beer Caramel

I found the show kind of boring. Maybe because the essence of Top Chef wasn’t there at all. How sad! At least I got to see my two favorites, Harold and Richard, again. Other than that…zzz.

Can’t wait for the next episode. Why? Two words: NIGELLA LAWSON.

In other news, remember Dave-the-guy-with-truffle-mac-and-cheese? How about Andrea-who-loved-quinoa? If you’re wondering where the other cheftestants are now, click here.
