The Sentimental Garage Sale

by

Garage sale #2 was also a success, but there were more emotional ties for us with this one. There were some items that still sent my sisters and me down memory lane, but they accumulated dust more than care from us. These items will serve others better anyway, so off we parted with them.

Hare are pictures taken by my awesome sister JJo. No tips this time, just pictures and stories I’d like to share. Oooh, a garage sale highlight: I met a fellow blogger! 😉

The bike's not for sale

Nope, the bike’s not for sale. That’s the bike of our first customer! Neighbors and village workers were gathering outside the garage 30 minutes before 10 am. We decided to open the garage door to them anyway. Welcome, welcome!

Now open!

My sister P posts more signs. We sold more stuff this time. H got into the garage sale groove and sold his old comics and collectible toys.

Energy food

Energy food. We munched on this before the sale started. Delicious! Care to have some? They’re sweet and salty heaven. 😀

Books galoreYoung adult booksRomance booksBooks

Books galore. We donated the unsold books to the local library. Maybe our Sweet Valley Kids collection will create fond memories for other children too!

Eager to get out of the shelf!

Much of the sentiment revolved around these stuffed toys. They’ve been with us since we were wee ones, but we know they’ll make other wee ones happier.

Eager to step out of the closet

From the attic came out the very first stuffed toy I got from a boy, as well as the very first stuffed toy from my first boyfriend. Haha! My sisters and I shared a few laughs, then put them on the shelf along with the rest of these cuties.

Eager to be in new arms

My sister P used to collect stuffed rabbits. I wonder if it was difficult for her to part with these, I didn’t get to ask her. She collects penguins now anyway.

Eager to find new owners

This gray mouse upfront holds a lot of memories for me! I remember my sisters and I made fun of it a lot. It was a huge, fat, gray mouse after all. He’s so much cuter than the little guy from Ratatouille too. Hmmm, come to think of it, he does look like the Ratatouille mouse’s brother. Oh, see the Seven Dwarves on the back row? :)

The Jolly Lot at the start of the day

The brown bear on the upper left corner is a backpack, and was a present from Santa Claus. I got him when I was in third grade, I think.

Another bear I loved a lot (not in this pic though) was a peach one named… I forgot his name. When I saw one of the neighborhood’s security guards bring it to the counter, I took in a deep breath. After he paid for the bear, my sisters asked why I reacted that way. I told them that peach bear was the first stuffed toy our Dad bought for me. I remember asking for a teddy bear from him when I was a kid, but he wouldn’t buy me one. Finally, he did. I remember being both disappointed (why was it peach and not the classic brown?!) and elated (I have a bear from Daddy!!!). So it was a little heartbreaking seeing it wrapped in a plastic bag and whisked away.

My sister P goes, “Just think that maybe he (the guard) has a daughter who’s also asking for a bear from him. Maybe this is her first bear, too.”

And I felt better immediately. Thanks P!

Husband's comics for sale This and that Hanging by a moment Haley James-Scott Fashion

Astroboy says hello

We also tried selling collectibles. Wrong target market though! We’ll bring these toys to Greenhills instead. This is H’s Astroboy figure. Er… isn’t Astroboy giving a rude gesture?

My home stuff for sale

These were gorgeous but gathering dust in my home and so… ciao, ciao. I was happy it was bought by a homemaker! I’m sure she’ll fill these jars with lovely spices.

The Cashier's Table

The cashier’s foldable table. Sister P did the computing, I did the bagging, JJo did the picture-taking.

Goodbye Grumpy!

Bye Grumpy!

And then there were four

And then there were four…

The Lone Seal

Won’t somebody buy me? *seal sniffles*

Dopey by JJo

Nobody bought Dopey!! Poor little Dopey. Always the last to be picked.

With Cookie and kids at the Garage Sale by JJo

And ta-da! Here’s my highlight of the garage sale weekend — meeting Cookie and her kids! Yey! They win the Cutest Customers Award. 😀

Thanks for viewing the pictures with me! The stuffed toy pics still make me a little nostalgic, but as my Mom said, “It’s nice to know they’re being cuddled again.” True and wise words, mother dear.

I think we’re taking a rest from garage sales first. Maybe the next one will be a Christmas sale. We’ll see. 😀

i need to do some purging as well. but i don’t know how and where to start. i’m having difficulty letting go of things that has been with me for quite some time. but rather than gathering dust and being left unused, might as well let others have it and be of more use.

hmmm….would anybody buy my hard bound quantum mechanics book?

    You never know, Danes! 😉

awww, did you keep one wee stuffed toy from your childhood?
i remember when kj’s mom sold their family house, and most stuff had to be thrown away, he salvaged two stuffed toys that he and his brother had when they were little boys.
i love it that you donated your svk books to the library. they get to have a new lease on life. :)

Oh yes! We kept several toys from our childhood. :)

And on those books, yup, I hope they’ll make other kids happy readers too.
