Thank you 29!

by

29 is a very good year. I just doodled in my notepad most of the blessings I received in my 29th year. There were a lot. What I thought had been a quiet year was a very spirited one. I learned a lot this year about myself, my marriage, my aspirations. It sounds cliché, doesn’t it? It sure doesn’t feel like one though, and I’m happy.

In my 29th year, I learned I truly wanted a life of creativity. I found myself at a crossroads one time, wondering whether I should pursue a career outside of creativity. It was a very difficult decision to make. While any road you take will help you grow as a person, the question is: will that lead you to what you want to do for the rest of your life? Career path, life path — they are two different things. Your career isn’t your life after all, just a part of it. I knew I wanted a life of creativity and imagination, and so pursued the road that let me live it. I do not regret it. The life path I choose is one of creative passion, and I’m truly happy with how this turned out. Thank you to my godmother, my closest friends, my parents and my husband for enlightening me with this life lesson.

In my 29th year, I learned that while strength is good, learning how to control it is better. I believed in my strength, but suffered the consequences of taking on too many responsibilities. Learn to let others lead, my dear friend advised. There are times when you lead, there are times when others do. And so I learned how to delegate, to train others, to be a partner, to sit back and not be the driver all the time. No backseat driving allowed either. I now feel much lighter and on top of my game, now that I know how to manage myself better.

In my 29th year, I learned that in a marriage, growing as individuals is just as important as growing as a couple. Sincere encouragement and belief in each other allow H & me to pursue our individual interests and crafts without alienating each other. And as we grew as individuals, we also grew together, stronger than ever. What better growth can you get than that!

My 29th seemed to assure me that things will get even better in my 30s. My 20s were quite the impulsive and adventurous ride, and 29 closed the loop on all its craziness. I am thankful and relieved.

While 29 was a very good year, if not the best year of my twenties, I can’t wait to turn 30. I feel like it’s the beginning of springtime. So come on 30s, bring it on!

I really like how you face your 30s with such enthusiasm. I have to be honest with you, I’m kinda dreading turning 30 but you know what, you’ve helped me realize that it’s not such a bad thing. After all, age ain’t nothin’ but a number. Cheers!
