A Double Celebration

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketMy Mom and I have almost always celebrated our birthdays together. I was born on the 30th of July, she was born on the 31st. Like two peas in a pod, our birthday parties were always a double celebration. This year, we’re still going for double the fun and laughter.

H, my sister J, and I brainstormed on ideas for my 30th birthday party. While I have celebrated the past years quietly, I wanted this year to be different. 30 is a significant age, and it is a golden birthday at that. Some ideas we had were: a) a gold-themed party – everyone comes wearing something gold, gold decor, etc., b) a kiddie party in one of the fastfood joints, c) an intimate lunch at the 2nd floor of Chaikofi in Mall of Asia, d) potluck party, e) eat-all-you-can merienda party. Come one, come all!

After much thought, I decided to go for the simple route again. While it would be great to have a huge rockin’ gold-themed party, I felt I was planning it just for the sake of partying. It didn’t sit well with me. So I’ve chosen to celebrate my 30th with the people who have stood by me through 30 years — my family. I also chose to forego the single celebration. Same reasoning: 30 is a significant age, and it is a golden birthday at that. It’s a blessing meant to be shared and celebrated with that someone special. And so, my Mom and I are celebrating our birthdays together — a simple dinner with family closest to our hearts. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate both our birthdays! After all, without my Mom, I woudn’t have a birthday! Haha! And come on, two lionesses and seafood? That’s definitely a celebration that’s double the appetite, double the fun, double the laughter, with lots of love and the gift of family all around.

So Mama, here’s to kicking off a new year in our lives — together at that! We do it close together, much like 30 years ago only without the birthing pains. 😀
