What is Uniqua?

My officemates and I were watching The Backyardigans over lunch when this pink creature came onscreen and intrigued us. The Backyardigans are a group of friends composed of a moose, a penguin, a hippo, a kangaroo and a pink creature named Uniqua that left us stumped. What’s pink, has antennae and spotted all over?

“It’s a salamander!,” said one officemate.
“A snake,” said another.
“A chameleon?,” asked one.
“An alien?,” I asked.

Right after lunch, I checked out the net to find out. She’s not a salamander, a snake or an alien after all. According to most of the sites, Uniqua is, well, a unique creature. The comments over at the blog Backyardigans Fan are funny, with several commenters sharing what they think Uniqua is.

Perhaps Uniqua is whatever you imagine her to be! That’s a cute way to trigger a discussion on imagination with kids. And with you.

Use your imagination. What kind of creature is Uniqua to you?

Talaga? I never really bothered to check despite the fact that she is Gaby’s favorite Backyardigan. Adi likes the hippo…Tasha ata yun name. Thought all the while that Uniqua was a snail without a shell. Me, I find them cute. I love their songs. The other favorite is Sherman..the worm :)

I like The Backyardigans. They are a cute bunch. Good question. Hmmm … assuming there is no right and wrong answer, I would like to think of it as a cute cricket. :)

My daughter loves this show! In fact, I love her version of The Backyardigans dance. She call it “Uniqua dance”. I asked her what kind of animal is Uniqua. She said a cross between a piglet and a baby giraffe. That’s her own interpretation. :)

ninna and i love the backyardigans! memorized na namin every episode and every song and dance step. and by “namin” i mean both ninna and i. :) fave ko si uniqua, fave ni ninna si austin, and si hubby fave si pablo hehe.

actually si ninna ang nagtanong sa akin dati what animal uniqua is (na-confuse yata siya kasi all the other characters alam niya), since hindi ko alam ang sagot i looked up the answer sa internet, hehe. i told her, uniqua is special. sabi ni ninna, “oohhh, ladybug with purple spots?”. and all i was able to do was say “yes”. hehehe!

we have been debating about it too for a long time at the house. backyardigans used to be Julie’s favorite but she has recently switched over to Playhouse Disney’s LIttle Einsteins.

Anyway, it’s a good show for kids. “We’ve got the whole wide world in our yard to explore!!!!”

Functional testing occurs in the source code, where the system is tested in opposition to functional necessities and
