Saba, so good!

by

Side dish or merienda: fried saba! I love saba bananas. Yum. I love having it in Adobo or Nilaga. Yum yum. Or fry it and serve as part of an arroz ala cubana meal. Yum yum yum. For merienda, I love having it sliced length-wise, frying it, and then eating it with a bit of butter and sugar. Or you can dip the slices in a flour and water batter before frying. You can boil the saba, make a sweet syrup, then stir in milk, mini sago and ice for a cold snack. And how about banana-que? Turon with sliced saba inside? Ginataan? Oh I could go on and on. All hail the saba banana!

P.S. I just felt like Bubba in that shrimp scene from “Forrest Gump.”

ooh.. I love saba. I eat them raw sometimes. hahaha.. About the asparagus, I just looked until they looked bright green. I’m assuming I steamed them no more than 10 minutes. Pero i-try out mo to make sure. You don’t want them to steamed kasi you still have to fry them with the bacon afterwards.

    Now I want some turon!

I hear all of you raving about saba, I grow it and presently have about a 20lb bunch, ripening in my garage; I have absolutely no idea how t prepare it; I’m used to all my other bananas (dessert) ie. ice cream, apple, cavandish etc. any advice would be greatly appreciated…thanks Nick
