While dining out usually entails the restaurant cooking and serving your chosen meals, there’s also dining out hot pot style. Have you tried that yet? Hot pot style means having a pot of simmering broth at the center of your table, then sliding in various ingredients of your choice. You don’t have to be a pro to know how to work it. 😉 A restaurant usually has ready sets (e.g. vegetarian, seafood, etc.) for you to choose from, and each set comes with its corresponding ingredients. A typical seafood set for example would include shrimp, squid balls, fish balls, fish fillet, oyster, fish lips. All sets have noodles and different vegetables. Easy right? Cooking time is short too. If you’re grasping at straws, you can always ask help from the restaurant staff.
I’ve tried several hot pot style restaurants, but my favorites are Gloria Maris in Greenhills and Healthy Shabu-Shabu in Power Plant. The pictures above are from a recent Gloria Maris lunch I shared with loved ones. I loaded up on petchay and fish balls. See my bowl? Deeeeelicious AND healthy!

January 30, 2007 at 9:54 am (17 years ago)oooh! i miss hot pot. when i was still in advertising, there was this chinese place in front of the office (i forgot the name though), the creatives (wow, i used to be a creative) usually go there for dinner when we are working overtime for a deadline. and i love, love, love the soup. and you can ask for more soup when it’s run out.
i love shabu-shabu. except i don’t have anyone to drag along here. medyo malungkot ata mag shabu-shabu ng mag-isa. hehe! tara, when i go back to manila, lets!

January 30, 2007 at 10:34 am (17 years ago)Here, the ingredients for a hot pot meals have a separate aisle on the grocery stores. Since we can’t afford to eat out a lot with 2 kids in tow… we are able to have hot pot dinner whenever we want to at home.
And Gloria Maris is the best !
