Fried bananas with whipped cream and chocolate syrup

by

In our household, fried saba bananas coated in flour and sugar (maruya) are a perfect Sunday afternoon snack. When my uncle took out a can of whipped cream and chocolate syrup, out went the flour and sugar, and in came a tastier, more sinful way to enjoy fried bananas.

Crisp and sweet deep-fried saba with whipped cream and chocolate syrup

It’s pretty easy to prepare. My 12-year-old cousin and I particulary enjoyed squirting the cream and drizzling the bananas with chocolate. Mmmmm. Here’s a step by step recipe:

Slice saba bananas thinly.
1. Slice the saba bananas thinly.

Cook in hot oil till crisp.
2. Cook in hot oil till crisp. Don’t leave those bananas alone! They might burn.

Drain those freshly fried saba slices
3. Drain the freshly cooked banana slices. If you don’t have a colander, you can pat them dry with paper towels.

Lay out those naked slices.
4. Lay out those naked banana slices. These are already very sweet and delicious. Resist the urge to bite into them!

Top with whipped cream from a can. Drizzle with chocolate syrup.
5-6. Squirt whipped cream on each banana. Then drizzle with chocolate syrup.

Wanna bite?
7. Enjoy!

ahkk sorry new comment on old content but i just had to!!! these are the new favorite snack of the paul-plazo household. both of us had this sudden craving for fried bananas one day. then i realized i had chocolate syrup and whipped cream in the fridge… both given to me during my bridal shower! with a pair of panties! lol. the rest is history.

very green bananas are a good substitute to saba as well. i couldn’t find any saba bananas in the groceries here.

deepa’s last blog post..Said the queen:

Whipped cream and chocolate syrup on a banana in a bridal shower context somehow is different. Hahaha.
