Books That Make You Cry

What are the books that make you cry? The books that no matter how many times you read them, you’re sure tears will fall? This is the book that makes me cry all the time:

Books that make you cry.
Love You Forever by Robert Munsch

It’s the story of a boy and his mother, and how their lives evolve. Despite the terrible twos or the rebellious teenage years, the story shows how constant and unconditional the love of a mother is. This is the lullaby she sings to him consistently:

“I’ll love you forever
I’ll like you for always
As long as I’m living
My baby you’ll be.”

Even when the son is all grown up and living on his own, the mother is present — assuring, comforting, loving, holding him in her arms for as long she can. But nothing, except love, is forever. Soon her arms are no longer strong enough to hold him. Soon it is the son who has to hold his mother.

Why I love the book so much even if I break into tears everytime

Love You Forever is such a simple story with so much heart. The book is beautifully illustrated by Sheila McGraw. The tone of the illustrations is nostalgic and poignant, which makes the story resonate with the reader even more. Love You Forever is a must for the family bookshelf.

I love this book because it perfectly captures how enduring love can be, whether it’s a mother to a son or a son to a mother. I see myself in the story. I see Timmy. And that is why I cry every single time I read this. I love it to bits.

If you haven’t read it but would like to hear the story, here is a reading by the author. It’s cool because you get to hear how the lullaby goes.

Did you watch it till the end? Did you cry? I bet you did. It’s okay. Among all the books that make you cry, Love You Forever will make you cry every single time you read it. It was even featured on FRIENDS! Joey’s gift to Baby Emma was a reading of the book. Check out how the friends react.

I read Love Story by Erich Segal when I was around 11. It made me cry. That was the first time I was moved to tears by a book.

The story of Love You Forever reminds me of a current ad campaign of a telecommunications company showing a Mom communicating with her son through the years. I love that TVC as it shows the constancy of family.
