All New 7 Wonders of the World?

by

Have you heard about the New 7 Wonders of the World? This is from their site:

Now, just as Pierre de Coubertin revived the Olympic Games in 1896 with his modern version of the competition, New7Wonders founder Bernard Weber is seeking to revive the concept of the 7 Wonders of the World with this ambitious global campaign, the New 7 Wonders of the World.
The key difference is that, this time around, they will not be chosen by one man, but rather by millions of people all over the world…

Of the Ancient 7 Wonders of the World, only one remains — the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. If you want to visit the other six, you can either time travel or look at this site. These are the 21 finalists for the New 7 Wonders of the World. Think the Banaue Rice Terraces are part of the list? 😉

Check out their site to learn more. I’m still thinking about which one to vote for…

I’d vote for the Eifel Tower and the Chichen Itza. The first for personal reasons and because it is a wonder of the modern times, the Ruins of Chichen Itza because the construction in this ruins is a scientific wonder. They have a playing field the size of several football courts but you can easily shout from one end to the other and still be heard. Their pyramids were constructed with precision and are meant to interact with light in a certain way. So why isn’t the Banaue rice terraces here? Hmmmmm…

I just voted. Yay! Thanks for the link. :)
5 of the places on my list are wonders I have actually visited for real.
They are the Taj Mahal in Agra India, Petra in Jordan, The Eiffel Tower in Paris, Acropolis in Athens and the Colosseum in Rome.

    Ah the good old days.

Cool link, but since I haven’t gone to any of those places I’m having a hard time casting my vote 😀

I think the Eiffel Tower’s a bit overrated though. I know it’s become a symbol of romance but that’s only because it’s in the most romantic city in the world. Imagine puting it in Makati or Hongkong; it would just be a pretty radio tower 😀

Voted! =) I chose all natural places … Giza, Great Wall, Stonehedge .. anything not created by new machines … they are the real wonders. I mean, the Australian thing, anyone can make that now. Even the Statue is not a wonder.

    Seriously.

Hmmm…So far in the list, I’ve only been to 5. I guess it’s best for me to vote when I’ve actually been to the place. Up close and personal. Easier to tell that way if it really is a wonder, right?

    Thanks for the link :)

Thanks for the interesting link. A pity, the Philippines is not included. I’m still thinking which ones to vote for. Great contenders for the 7 slots.

while i would love to see all that’s been nominated, i’m really wondering why some of them are on there. like the eiffel tower and the statue of liberty… as a devoted new yorker (although i have not lived in nyc in 7 years!), i’m inclined to vote for the statue of liberty just coz it’s represents my hood – but i wouldn’t call it a wonder of the world…

the banaue rice terraces, i’d say is more appropriate for the list…

anyway, if i do vote, it’s between the pyramid or the great wall of china – most likely the great wall not only coz it’s probably the longest cemetery on earth but aliens can see them from their ship in outer space. how cool is that?
