Terms of Endearment

Terms of Endearment

A term of endearment is usually a nickname or word that holds a special meaning expressing affection or fondness.

When I was a little girl, my Dad fondly called me “Ambo.” I’m not sure if it means “little boy” or if it’s just a boy’s name. Sometimes he’d call me Ambrosia. Then he’d call my sister Procopia. Hee hee. My Mom once called me her “Little Rosebud.” When I was still single and living with them, she’d send me a text message with “Wake up, my little rosebud!”

Even before H and I got married, we were already calling each other Husby and Wifey. Mush alert! We already knew we were meant to spend the rest of our lives together.

My best friend calls me “Muppet,” “Muffin,” or “Poo Poo.” Ha ha! Only my best friend can get away with that. The rest of my friends call me “Toni Girl” or “Tones.”

Do you have any special nicknames? Any terms of endearment that you once hated but now love? I’m sure even the most unmushy person in the world would love to be called something special.

And whose heart doesn’t melt when they hear The Cuppycake Song? Lyrics after the cut.

The Cuppycake Song

You’re my Honeybunch, Sugarplum
Pumpy-umpy-umpkin, You’re my Sweetie Pie
You’re my Cuppycake, Gumdrop
Snoogums-Boogums, You’re the Apple of my Eye
And I love you so and I want you to know
That I’ll always be right here
And I love to sing sweet songs to you
Because you are so dear!

i think me and hubby are the only ones without nicknames or petnames for one another… people are wondering why we don’t have petnames for one another.

Hubby and I call each other “Nget!” which is short for Panget. We liked teasing each other because we used to be office heartthrobs. Lol!

Ohh denpot, I love terms of endearment too! I used to not like TinTin but i love it now, esp. hearing the Woods call me that. I’m also babe, mama, cara mia, sweetie.

Woody has been called: sidi wadih (moroccan for prince woody), habeebi (moroccan for love), doofus, babe, daddy, pappi, sweetie, honeybunny.

oh…i’ve loved this song forever. may animation pa the first time i saw/heard it years ago–a girl swaying side to side.

officially my nick is “jojo” since birth. so “jo” for short/er.

i was called “jojay patis” by my elders when i was a kid. i heard my ninang call me that a few times when i was in college. but i don’t know the story behind it.

friends used to call me honeyjo (coz that’s my YM id). then when i got married, it became mamajo and for the guys, it became hotmamajo. one group of girlfriends call me “jojing” and “jojer”.

hubby & i call each other “bebeh”. and of course, i’m “mama” to my little one.

Strange really, my girlfriend and I never chose to give each other special names. It wasn’t really a big deal for us, but the sweet thing is, she gave me my nickname. :)

Aww at the Strawberry Shortcake song!

    And awwww at this:
Even before H and I got married, we were already calling each other Husby and Wifey. Mush alert! We already knew we were meant to spend the rest of our lives together.

My family calls me “Chi” (short for Achi or big sister), it’s a bit confusing because it sounds like my mom’s nickname Ji (short for Joji).

Hubby and I call each other Bear, Bugga, or Bugga Bear. I don’t even remember how we came up with that 😀

But my dad calls me “Nene o Ne” para bang di ako lumalaki Im still his little bab / girl.

i love being called baby girl.. or baby boo.. or boo.. but i love it most as a total endearment to call me by my first name.. barbara –

not many people call me by my first name, so it’s really special when the boy says it nicely in full :)

i don’t like food like terms of endearment.. .i hate “sweetie pie”, “my pumpkin” etc.. ugh!

kinda funny that this new guy that’s currently my object of affection calls me the “husby”and he’s “my wifey”- he’s so homeley does a lot of chores at his house, and i tend to be the workaholic one.

    sweet entry toni!

When we were little, my younger brother used to call me nene, it was another term for ate. My parents and relatives call me Gi or Gigi. That is actually my nickname. I know it seems far fetched from Rachel but my mom wanted to call me with a name close to hers (her name is Ging). My best friends (I have several) call me Rach or Best Friend. My colleagues and friends call me Rachel or Rach. My ex called me Chelay. My husband initially called me Love then later on Baby. But when we had a son, I started calling him Dad while he calls me Mom. Until now, that is our term of endearment.

My teacher in Elementary called me “lailai” from my name Leilani. But I felt embarrassed cause “lailai” in English means sagging.

My hubby calls me “darling baby” (hehehe).

oh, i call the hubby “cush” or “cushy”, which is short for “acushla”, gaelic for sweetheart or vein of my heart. i think in the movie million dollar baby, clint eastwood calls hilary swank moi cushla, a variation i think.

the hubby, when he writes to me, calls me “summer”, because as the song he chose for me to walk down the aisle to says, i am the sunshine of his life, i bring warmth and light. awww. (song by stevie wonder). but he doesn’t really call me anything. he calls me ree or rheea.

i like being called ree. when i was younger, my brother used to call me eeya, which i also liked. and most of the time, he’d shorten it to ee. even his close friends called me ee. hehe.

i actually love giving people nicknames. and i like naming things and pets and plants and all that. 😀

I call my husband Jerk! hahahaa! It’s from Jerky, a playful variation of Jerry.

He calls me Nok! Wala lang.

A friend started calling me Yam when I was in high school and it just stuck. My friends have variations of that name: Yammy, Yammy-yam-yam… oh, and they also call me Yasminka at times. But the nick I hate? For some reasons I don’t like being called Yams :)

hi, toni! “petite” has been my nickname practically since i was born. i’m the eldest of 3 kids and i have numerous younger cousins, so a lot of people at home also call me “ate petite” or simply “ate”, even my aunts! shortcut na lang nila siguro yun. my mom and dad call me ‘nak (short for anak) and ‘ta (short for tata, also meaning “child”) sometimes, and on rare occassions my dad calls me ‘darling’ (especially when he’s trying to convince me to sing during karaoke sessions at home – hehe). the hubby-do and i call each other ‘ga (short for palangga, a visayan word loosely translated as “beloved”) and sweetie, among many other very mushy names. i never thought i would be the kind of person to use a lot of terms of endearment, but i guess the right person just brought out this mushy side of me. :-)

    Hey Toni….

My late father back in the day had two pet names for me…”Big Newt” and “Buck-Buck”…GEEZZ…: 0!!! Don’t even ask me where “Big Newt” came from!!…PLEASE… lol “Buck-Buck” came from when I was about 7 in the second grade, I had my school picture taken and when shown to my father with my two new teeth sticking out my mouth grinning like a rabbit looking like Bugs Bunny, that’s when my dad dubbed me my name “Buck-Buck”.

That’s such a sweet story. Thanks for sharing that. :)
