I heard that frogs are lucky. Someone said frogs are lucky because they just take in food — take in, take in, take in — and don’t poop it out. So it’s like them keeping their wealth intact. Money won’t escape. Another version is that a frog is a symbol of abundance because it lays a lot of eggs. It’d be interesting to know more what brought that belief about. If you know the story behind those frogs, let me know. I find it really interesting!
And if you know the meaning of those frogs in the pic above, share them with me too! I bought the figure from Vietnam months ago only because I got inspired by what our tour guide told us about frogs and because I like buying things in twos.
(The truth? I hate frogs. Whenever I see even a tiny one jumping around in the grass, I totally freak out.)

Never put your stove right across your basin. It’s bad luck.
Never have two doors facing each other in perfect alignment. It should always be sorta diagonal. Basta wag tapat na tapat.
Don’t sweep after 6. It throws away money.

Having an arowana [dragon fish] at home is said to bring goodluck and prosperity.
Having a waterfalls [either in picture frame or plant form] means the continuous flow of money.

October 27, 2006 at 10:39 am (18 years ago)when we got married, we were given a figurine that almost look like yours, pero smaller. it’s said to bring good luck nga daw, pero di ko nadala dito eh.
when we moved apartment a few months ago, i saw this chinese bamboo plant on a bed of pebbles with 3 frogs surrounding the small pot and i love it! good luck nga kasi mura lang
saka gumagaan feeling ko pag nakikita ko yung plant kong yun, zen ever!

October 27, 2006 at 11:06 am (18 years ago)A lot of Japanese are into it . Yellow is supposed to bring you good luck and a mirror in the entrance door/hall. I don’t believe much in those things though. There is a maneki neko, a cat figurine you put in the entrance hall of shops and restaurants,good business luck charm.

1. make sure your bed’s positioned such that it doesn’t face the door.
2. all parts of the house should be well lit. especially corners.
3. no reflective surfaces facing the bed — in old chinese folklore, it invites death daw since reflective surfaces are sometimes seen as portals to another dimension.
4. in times when you’re limited by whatever — i.e. you can’t rearrange furniture to adhere to the feng shui rules, you can always use a device, icon, whatever that will repel the “bad luck” — e.g. the eight sided mirror, wind chimes or a screen.
5. when there’s an uneven corner in your house (e.g. walls or beams that are jutting out in the middle of a room), put a wind chime at the exact corner where the wall or beam juts out.
6. don’t sleep under a beam.
7. don’t place chopsticks face down on a bowl – usually also means death.
for now, that’s all i can think of. will post more if i remember.

1. Since there is an exposed beam in our bedroom, we hanged bamboo flutes with red ribbons to ensure harmony. They say exposed beams may disrupt harmony in the house.
2. We also have a frog with a coin in its mouth, near the door to invite wealth.
3. We have a Red Buddha for good luck and harmonious living.
4. We have windchimes to attract good chi.
5. Our front door initially faced the mountain, which they say is not good for the health since the location of the front door seems to be challenging the strength of the mountain. We had the front door relocated to face another direction.
6. We have flowerhorns (fish) which they say bring good luck.
7. We strategically placed a fountain in the house for good luck.
8. We have a small bell tied to the doorknob for good luck.

October 28, 2006 at 12:14 am (18 years ago)i actually almost bought something like that for my business, but my sister told me that it should be given to you to activate the luck or something like that. so she bought it for me instead. things didnt really improve drastically, so i’m guessing you have to live and breathe feng shui for it to actually work.

October 28, 2006 at 10:07 am (18 years ago)it is said that during summer frogs hibernate by burying themselves in mud, and in their hibernation they practically die because their hearts stop beating. rain brings the frogs back to life, and so they croak and they croak because they are ecstatic of their resurrection. i read this not from some biology book but in jm coetzee’s novel elizabeth costello.
frogs are despised because they are icky, and by the way they carry symbolisms of the plague. but i like them because they eat mosquitoes. (i especially like the green frogs because they look funny).
as for feng shui, uh, hmmm, i prefer kung fu.

-The reason for either stove or sink not facing each other: they are clashing elements (water puts out fire).
-Beds should never face the bathroom door (may result in sickness).
-The ‘pozo negro’ should not be located where it will be frequently walked upon.
-The master’s bedroom should not have ‘dead space’ beneath it (such as a garage or unoccupied basement).

I am worry when i learned this belief because our pozo negro is located on the front main door, our sink and stove facing each other and my bed is facing my bathroom. How can i stop/ avoid badluck coming in?
