My friend Fiona gifted me with a “Watch Me Grow Diary” before I gave birth. It’s a journal that helps you record your child’s feeding (time, liquid, amount), sleeping (and waking time), diaper changes (time, urine or BM), medication (time, medicine, amount), his activities and milestones everyday.
Combine not getting enough sleep with multi-tasking during the day and you could easily forget when you fed baby last. This journal has therefore been a huge help for me! For example, I quickly forget which breast I fed Timmy with last. So instead of putting in the amount of milk I give him (as I don’t really know how many ounces I give him during a breastfeeding session anyway), I just put “Left Breast” or “Right Breast.” Everytime it’s time to feed, I just whip out the diary and check which breast Timmy should be fed from next. The journal has also helped me see a pattern in Timmy’s feeding, sleeping and even pooping schedules. I’ve learned that Timmy feeds for an average of 20 minutes every 1 1/2 hours and that he poops 8-10x a day. The makings of a healthy baby, yey!
With so much to do in taking care of baby (and taking care of myself too!), this journal is a great way to help me stay organized and updated on Timmy’s patterns. If you’re into this kind of tracking, I think this “Watch Me Grow Diary” is available at National Bookstore. Or why not create your own journal too?

thanks, toni!

September 18, 2009 at 5:12 pm (15 years ago)and i thought babies should have milk from both breasts every feeding time that’s what old mothers say because the L breast have thinner milk. I know, there’s no scientific evidence for this claim. Natawa tuloy ako sa sarili ko

September 24, 2009 at 8:01 am (15 years ago)ooohhh… I didn’t have as fancy a journal but I also recorded feedings and diaper changes, and then later solids and milestones… I made a logbook lang from scratch paper and counted number of times I didn’t bother with remembering which breast I last used kasi I insisted on nursing with both breasts each feeding
these things are great kasi nga you’d get to realize when the growth spurts occurred kasi may changes in feeding, around vaccination time (w/c is generally monthly din kasi), and there are logs of “no sleep at all”, “fussy all night”, etc 😀
