Tub Bath Trouble

by

Projectile pee? Bring it on. Projectile poop? I can handle it. Late night feedings? Getting used to it.

Tub baths? HOLY COW. Of all the baby stuff I do with Timmy, tub baths have got to be the most stressful. Oh man, oh man, oh man.

He absolutely hates being fussed over. I think he senses when it’s bath time because he begins crying and throwing a fit. That carries on the whole bath time. He only calms down when I pat him with a towel to dry him up. And then it’s all smiles and gurgling, making me forget the stress of the last few minutes.

I’d love to say tub baths are a soothing, bonding experience for me and the baby, but I think that’s one experience unique to TV commercials (and lucky moms).

Tub baths with Timmy are such a workout that I need a tub bath right after.

What’s your baby tub bath experience? Any tips on how to make bath time more soothing for a one-month-old?

kade was that too the first few weeks. try singing to timmy or talking to him in a soothing voice while he’s taking a bath. it might work.

kade’s now enjoying his baths, it’s the crying after the bath we’re experiencing now. hahaha! once i carry him to dry him off, naku, his cries! parang naapi.

I’m lucky, because Rafa likes baths. The first time we gave him a bath, he became very quiet, as if he was suddenly amazed by the new sensation (or maybe because it reminded him of being in amniotic fluid, haha!). The next few times, he screamed. But that lasted only for a few weeks. Pretty soon, he was enjoying his baths again. :) Just like Haze, there are times when he refuses to get out of the bath!

I do recall that when Rafa was newborn he preferred his baths on the warm side. Maybe making the water slightly hotter might help?

    I have hope!!!

I’ve tried making the tub water hotter but he’s still fretful. Gah. Maybe a couple more weeks!

Such a big bath might be a bit scary. Try bathing him in a sink or in a plastic tub. Some babies hate to be completely undressed as well. Try covering him with a face washer/flannel and see if that helps. We started MissIcy in the laundry tub and only moved her to the big bath when she wouldn’t fit any more.

He bathes in a baby tub. I’ll try your tip on covering part of his body with a cloth. Thanks! :) Hope that works.

Una loved taking a bath. She gets fussy when her bath times are late. I love bathing her on her early months. But as soon as she can roll over, we met trouble. She enjoys bath so much she likes to roll over in her tub. I used to handle bathing her alone but since the rolling over began, I can’t do it anymore. My MIL took over and they learned to have a system. Which me and Daddy K tried when her Lola was not around, we had a water pooled everywhere in the kitchen floor after bathing her.

Have you tried experimenting with water temperature? Baka Timmy find it too hot or too cold?

Yes, I’ve tried experimenting with different temperatures. :( Ganon pa rin!

Quino was the same way the first few times. But now he absolute loves bath times!!! Like Haze’s Kade, he cries when it’s over. This phase will pass and pretty soon it’ll be a breeze for you :)

I had a hard time with bathing too. More my problem than my daughters. lol! I just couldn’t get comfortable… I always felt like I’m going to drop her or have her fall out of the tub. I think she could feel my discomfort because she hated baths too and did like Timmy.

    Until…

I decided to take baths with her :) I just get in the tub and hold her in my arms. My husband would usually have to assist especially getting in and out of the tub, but she and I were much calmer during bath times and it became enjoyable. Of course that only worked with the first baby. We could afford to spend that much time and energy on baths. lol! Luckily, we didn’t have as much trouble by the time the other girls were born. I think I was more confident to bathe them by then too.

I think you and Timmy will find the best method for you both eventually. Enjoy! These are such exciting times 😀

naku ganyan talaga yata lahat ng babies, during the first few weeks/months, ayaw naliligo. si joel din ganyan and during those days nothing can soothe her. kahit pa yung mga tips ng ibang mommies tinry ko like give her a bath pag busog, pag bagong gising, bsta pag satisfied and content.

but i promise you, it’ll get better. joel super loves the water naman ngayon! pag nasa tub naman or pool, ang problem ayaw na umahon, hahaha

I’m looking forward to the day Timmy will love baths 😀
