Friendly soup for the root canal patient

by

I’m not done with my multi-sessioned root canal therapy, and that means solid food is a pain to eat. I don’t want to rely on canned soups to sustain myself till my mouth is fully healed, so here’s a soup that’s quick to cook (so you can go back to lying bed) and easy on the mouth (minimal chewing needed).

Egg and Garlic Soup for the Root Canal Patient

Ingredients:
5 cloves of garlic, chopped
2 eggs
6 cups of chicken/pork broth (or 6 cups of water with 1 Knorr Cube)
Salt and Pepper to taste
Oil
2 T milk per serving – optional

What to do:

  1. Saute the garlic in oil till brown.
  2. Pour in the broth and bring to a boil.
  3. Bring down to a simmer and put in the eggs. I like mine poached-style, so I crack one egg gently over the soup. For the other egg, I beat it in a bowl before sliding it into the broth. Mix this beaten egg around the pot until it forms eggs ribbons.
  4. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve hot. If you’d like to add a little fullness to your soup, mix in about two spoonfuls of milk into your individual bowl.

This serves 1 hungry and suffering root canal victim and 3 lucky diners. You can jazz this soup up with herbs and chicken bits, but I like it this way — comforting, simple and most importantly, no chewing needed.

I hope you feel better soon. Thanks for the recipe. This is a perfect soup for a snow day. We just got our first snow of the year here, so I’ll give this recipe a try. Again, get well.

Hi Kayni! Thanks for the kind words. I’m feeling better everyday though that darn tooth surprises me when I least expect it too. Oh well.

    Hope you like the soup!
