Far From Heaven

by

Maymee's Pancakes My family and I had dinner at Heaven n Eggs last weekend. This restaurant serves breakfast fare like pancakes, sausages, tapa and rice, all day, all night. It’s a place that has adopted an angelic feel — there are cotton candy clouds painted on sky blue walls, the furniture is white, there are swings with vines (well, plastic ones) crawling up the chains, there are angel figurines hanging from the ceiling and the waitresses wear halos and angel wings.

Sounds promising, right? Sadly, its heavenly feel stops there.

Where's the Maple Syrup? Can you believe they ran out of maple syrup?! “Ma’am, naubusan po kami.” Pancakes are one of the main dishes in their menu! Sure they had coconut syrup, peach syrup and pineapple syrup. But c’mon, they should’ve stocked up on classic maple syrup. Common sense fellas.

Then there was the airconditioning. Ah, terrible. They didn’t adjust the aircon until after we complained about it. Again, not a very heavenly experience.

It gets worse. The service was slow. Do the angel wings slow down service, perhaps? Hmmm. I’ve eaten in two branches of Heaven n Eggs and slow service has been consistent. I ordered a Bacon and Eggs dish. The menu said it would consist of several strips of bacon, two eggs, hash browns (or fries) and pancakes (or rice or bread). My order was the friggin’ last to arrive. Take this: My Mom and I ordered at the same time — she got the Manila Spareribs which might take longer to prepare right? Nah, mine was the last.

And well, several strips of bacon? Make that three flimsy strips. Two eggs? Okay, delivered. Hash browns? They were french fries dipped in too much flour batter. There was so much batter I doubted they were potatoes. I had to ask my grandma if they used kamote (she said they were potatoes anyway… just potatoes with too much flour). My pancakes? Oh, they came halfway through my meal. I didn’t even touch them anymore. Not only because I had lost my appetite, but because there wasn’t any maple syrup. Remember?

Okay in fairness, the maple syrup did arrive. I saw a member of the staff run through the restaurant door, take out a bottle of newly purchased syrup from a plastic bag and place it on their condiments station. Hurrah for the customers who just arrived. As for us, we were done with our meals.

It’s a good thing we were all in high spirits because it was a birthday celebration and we were enjoying each other’s company. The not-so-heavenly experience did not destroy our evening. It did however make us wary about dining in this restaurant again.

bea, true. the pancakes tasted like the typical from-the-box recipe. if they were serving pancakes as part of their menu, shouldn’t they at least make it more special?

Hi Toni! Ako din, I didn’t have a good experience when I ate there. Honestly, I thought that the restaurant was over rated. Food was overpriced and talagang service sucks. :(

Jhie: Okay lang yan. Jen and the rest of us unhappy customers have a right to share our thoughts on that restaurant’s performance. The restaurant performed very weakly and we customers have every right to share their opinions, whether good or bad. Voicing them out in blog entries or comments is expected. Easy lang, okay? :)

I always pass by that restaurant but never had the opportunity to sample their cuisine. Somehow the concept of eating breakfast fare all day is strange kasi you can eat pancakes, bacon and eggs naman anytime sa bahay.

When I eat out I like to munch on food I cannot cook not that I *do* cook at all. hehehe 😉

Thanks for the tip, Toni. Saves me the trouble. I love pancakes pa naman. Kung hindi sya ok, baka I will go ballistic. hehehe. Temper over pancakes. Parang trivial na hindi. You would have indeed thought they’d have done something really special with it.

I had a terrible experience there also.

The food took forever. A had to order 3 different food items because:

    1) After waiting for what felt like 30 minutes, they finally tell us that what A ordered is out of stock.
    2) A ordered another dish and they tell us it would take 15 minutes to defrost the steak. A didn’t want to wait any more so he ordered one last dish. I was already trying to pacify him by this point.

When his food finally arrived, I was sooo relieved! He was really getting pissed off!

On another visit, prior to my experience above, I had to ask twice for a refill of my iced tea, a condiment etc before it arrived!

Sayang! Ganda pa naman ng concept and selection of food. The servings are huge too! But their customer service really sucks!

hi toni! i agree with the other readers here. service there totally sucks! the first time i ate there was in glorietta and the staff assigned to us took forever to deliver our orders and moreso our bill. we practically waited for the bill for close to thirty minutes!

then in eastwood. like the story related by the blogger above i had to change orders thrice! my friends were about to finish their meal (they actually informed me the second time that my order wasn’t availble when they already served the dinner of my buddies) when mine arrived and that after i called the attention of their manager already. hay.

oh well. i think bad service is now more of the norm and not the exception. sad. i wish i could say a good thing about the food i ate there but it wasn’t memorable.

Okay, so this resto won’t be in my list when I go back to Manila. :) It’s good your family still enjoyed… it’s the togetherness that’s important, diba?

It’s my first time here… I love your blog design.
