Books as Playlists

by

Fixing my iTunes playlist is so cathartic. I’m not a music person — I don’t know what the latest hits are, but I do love to read books. This is why I thought of naming my playlists after some of my favorite books. This way of organizing songs has helped me appreciate music more. When I have a new mp3, I get giddy trying to decide which playlist it belongs to. 😀 Here are my playlists:

Sloppy Firsts – for songs that could belong in a chick flick, e.g. Cigarettes by The Wreckers, It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over by Lenny Kravitz

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower – for songs that have a retro feel to it, e.g. Asleep by The Smiths, Superstar by Sonic Youth

Realm of Possibility – for songs that have an ethereal or new age feel, e.g. The Nutcracker by Tsaikovsky, Storia D’Amore by Sarah Brightman

The Undomestic Goddess – for songs that pick up energy a.k.a. songs to do chores by, e.g. The Way I Are by Justin Timberlake & Keri Hilson, Kaboom! by Ursula 1000

Twilight – for songs that bring out the emo in anyone, e.g. Clocks by Coldplay (anything by Coldplay actually), Your Guardian Angel by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

Sloppy Firsts was written by Megan McCafferty, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Realm of Possibility by David Levithan, The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.

I listen to the Sloppy Firsts playlist the most, and the Undomestic Goddess the least. Haha. 😉

Which playlist do you think you’d listen to the most? And how do YOU organize your music playlists?

Today’s LSS (Last Song Syndrome) is brought to you by:
Superstar by Sonic Youth

you have a very interesting way of categorizing music :) I’m not as creative although I love reading too… I just categorize per genre…. Let’s see…. I think I would be listening to songs under the “Perks of Being a Wallflower” :)

Hi homebuddy! Ah, that’s a nice choice. The Perks playlist is great to listen to when you’re going on solitary walks, just taking it slowly and easy.

This is an interesting way to organize playlists! :) Although I’m afraid it would be too tedious for me since I own too many songs. Hee.

I usually organize mine by mood, and by event. For example, I have a playlist that contains all the songs that Switchfoot played in Manila last year. I also have a “Cheer Me Up” playlist…which just contains one album, the OST of Altar Boyz because it never fails to cheer me up. I also have my prayer time playlist, symbolized by the YM emoticon for praying: “[-o<“. And there are my favorites, the songs that capture my mood, which I display w/ YM emoticons too: “:-<” and “:-|”. Hahaha. Soon I’ll have “:x”, but let’s see when that comes in. =))

That YM emoticon playlist is so cute naman! :) And this book playlist isn’t as tedious! You can do A’s today, B’s tomorrow… 😀

hey that’s a cool way of organizing, it amazes me how much patience you have for that since i don’t have much hehe. i usually organize by mood. my fave is the reggae compilation which i play whenever i’m in the mood for jammin’ music. another is scream, which i play whenever getting intoxicated from work. several titles in my list are dates which depends on varying moods for a single day, say i wanted to mix Dong Abay with Regina Spektor or Urbandub with Ella Fitzgerald :D.

Yeah it takes up some time, but it’s kinda cathartic this way of organizing. Come to think of it, I guess we both organize by mood, only in different ways! 😉

i categorize it by events in our lives:

Tinitigyawat – 80s music while going through puberty :)
Nanliligaw – music I sent as a mixed cassette (what’s that?) to Mitzi when I was yes – nanliligaw
Ikakasal – when we were together na
    etc etc

    im doing
Nirarayuma – dance music i cant dance too – e.g. Usher’s Dance in this Club

    next up
Ulyanin Na – Classical music siguro, hehehe – but its under Panghele 😛

So yun Tinatagiyawat phase mo, equivalent yan sa Ipinapanganak phase ko? Hehehe.
