A tiny kitchen’s must-have

by

Note: The Ref Door Project update will be delayed to Wednesday. Eek! Sorry. Meanwhile, let me update you on another part of my kitchen — the kitchen sink!

My kitchen is waaaay cramped. I hardly have space to dance in! Tsk, tsk. While we can do without dancing in the kitchen, we cannot do without drying our plates! There’s a tiny space beside my sink, but it already holds a tiny cabinet which holds my plates and silverware. So how do I dry everything? With this trusty hanging dish dryer wire rack! (Sorry, I don’t know what it’s officially called.)

How do you use it? Well, just go wash your dishes. C’mon, go. Wash, wash, splash a bit of soap on your shirt — dammit!, sing a song while your sponge goes round and round those plates (in this case, microwavable plastics), wash behind those ears now, oh I meant in between those fork thingies, rinse. Arrange the flatware on the wire rack, and let the rack hang nicely over your sink.

There is a 1-2″ between the rack and the sink bottom so the stuff can literally drip dry. Now go watch TV, clean the house, curl your hair. When you get back after your chores, the plates are already dry. You can opt to wipe ’em before popping them into their cabinets just to make sure.

If you have a teensy weensy kitchen like mine, I highly recommend this trusty hanging dish dryer wire rack. I got mine at Robinson’s Mr. Handyman hardware store, but I’ve seen these in SM and True Value too.

So I guess it all evens out. While I can’t get to dance in the kitchen, at least I still get to dry my dishes! Of course! That is of utmost importance. We don’t want to eat with wet plates now do we? Anyway I can always sing in the kitchen. Now that we can never do without!

    tones,
i have the same problem, my kitchen is way too small for me! nakakainis ano? i have a small rack beside the sink…taking up much needed counter space, maybe ill get a hanging rack (the kind that hangs from a cupboard) and free my counter for a mini oven…hmmm, gastos na naman! 😀

Cute – eliminates hand drying altogether!

You’re definitely more dilligent than I am with the kitchen. There are days I just let ’em pile up! I use the dryer on my dishwasher :)

Mukha ngang mas hygienic yan Toni kesa sa ginagawa ko ngayon na nilalagay ko sa maliit na planggana yung nahugasan na to drip-dry. Kasi naiiwan yung tubig sa planggana! Makahanap nga rin nyan.

Yes, music in the kitchen is indispensable! And you can always shake your head and tap your toes while singing! :)

hi toni! i finally posted a pic of my fridge. what a neat project you started here! oh, and great dishrack. i have very little counter-space as well, so this may work in my kitchen. right now, i have 2 dish racks –one for our dishes, and one for baby’s stuff. i wish i had a dishwasher!

So innovative! The only reason we have storage space in our kitchen is because we use the dishwasher to store plates and silverware that we use daily.:)
