Toddler art: Drawing on the floor

by

Since the toddler has a fondness for drawing on floors, I thought it was a good idea to encourage this. Crayons on the floor tiles?!? No, no, no, that’s not what I meant. Manila paper on the floor tiles, yes, yes, yes! Gotta protect that terra cotta floor.

Morning artwork

I spread out the paper on the floor, spilled the crayons (to the tot’s delight) and proceeded to draw. It didn’t go as well as I thought it would.

Look Timmy! Mommy drew Sally and Lightning! (“GA!”)
Look Timmy! Mommy traced her hands! Can I trace yours? (*squirmed away while I tried tracing his hand*)
Look Timmy! Mommy drew you! (*ran away*)

He did enjoy jumping up and down on the manila paper and crumpling it with his hands and feet.

He then proceeded to run around the play area while toppling over his kiddie chairs one by one.

KALAT!

I got his attention by drawing the Leaning Tower of Tires (from Luigi’s Casa Della Tires). He clapped his hands, then ran away. He came back in a flash with a new toy.

I'd rather play ball Mommy.

Ah, well! Time to play catch a.k.a. “Timmy throws and Mommy is the pulot (“pick-up”) girl”.

After our ball game, I packed up the crayons and papers and tucked them neatly into his art envelope. This is where all his artwork and paper supplies go.

Keeping the artwork

What happened afterward? I’m sure you can guess. Once the papers were put away, I turned to the tot. There he was, with crayons on the floor tiles, drawing on the floor.

Artwork on the floor

Well, rustic red does go splendidly with a terra cotta floor.

OMG! it’s the same with my toddler… I tried food colorings for finger painting, then washable colored pens, then colored pencils with coloring books… he either detroyed the materials or used them on the door. Initially I felt frustrated at my failed attempts but then again he’s not even two years old so i guess it’s too early.

That’s true! These toddlers are just being toddlers. Might as well let them have their fun! After all, when can they do this again and get away with it? :)
