Preparing Food for the Baby

by

One of my favorite baby things at home is Timmy’s food grinder. Since he started eating table food many months ago, I was eager to let him try different dishes. Ampalaya? Check! Nilagang baka? Check! Tinola? Check! Any other soupy or sauteed vegetable dish? Check, check, check!

The wheel on the grinder goes round and round

I like my Munchkin Baby Food Grinder because:
a) Dishes for baby are so easy to prepare! No need for electricity. No sharp blades that scare me. Just spoon the food into the grinder and whirl away.
b) The texture of the food comes out consistent and smooth.
c) It’s easy to clean.
d) It comes with a metal grinder, which is great in grinding meat.
e) It’s portable! I haven’t tried bringing it out of home yet. But should my family and I find ourselves planning for an overnight stay somewhere, this grinder is definitely coming along.

Now how about electric grinders? That’s where my Magic Bullet comes in! This is what we use to prepare fresh orange juice or fresh apple juice for the baby. After blending the fruits in the bullet, we strain the liquid and serve it to the boy. He loves it. I like the Bullet because it doesn’t take up a lot of space on the counter. I also love that it’s a high-speed blender. We use it to make smoothies too!

I turn to the manual food grinder for most of the baby’s meals because rice and potatoes get way starchy when whisked in the blender. Who wants gummy food, right?

I still use the good ol’ fork to mash some food like avocados or bananas. But for table food and other fruits, I’ve got these two on standby! Thank goodness for these two inventions. They sure make life easier.

hi toni! great implement but follow your gut feel when to transition from always grinding timmy’s food to just mashing and cutting into smaller pieces. i’m not a doctor but as a pediatric occupational therapist, i’ve seen many kids having feeding difficulties later on because they’ve been so used to their food being processed thru a blender/grinder. hope you don’t mind this unsolicited advice =)

Oh, my dear, you are an awesome mom! I love that grinder. I did the same job with my hand blender. It feels so good giving our little ones food that we cook ourselves rather than food from a jar, doesn’t it? :) xo

I still have our grinder! It was so convenient and easy to use. It’s Chicco, but looks exactly like yours. Happy eating adventures, Timmy!
