Happy New Year!

by

Happy New Year, everyone!!! Thank you for all the wonderful holiday greetings. I hope you had a warm and love-filled Christmas and are embracing the goodness ’07 has to offer!

2007. Year of the Pig. Piggy bank. Coins. Wealth. Health. Gotta watch the weight. Eat right. Balance. Sleep well. Exercise. No laziness. No procrastination. Do not eat like a pig. But enjoy playing in the mud. Those are the first things that come to mind when I think of this new year! And these are some stuff I am looking forward to this 2007:

#1. Health and Wealth! H and I have agreed that our vision for 2007 will be just that. I’m proud to share that since Jan. 1 started (even if it was only 4 days ago! ;)), we’ve been very dedicated to achieving that goal. H has cut down on his rice, and I haven’t had any rice since then. H has been faithfully going to the gym and I sweated it out yesterday by cleaning our little home spotless. Whenever we feel ourselves succumbing to temptation, we look at each other and say, “Health and Wealth!!!” This mantra works!

#2. 30 on 30. I am celebrating my golden birthday this year! Why is it golden? I turn 30 on July 30. A golden birthday is when you have the same age as your birthdate, i.e. 29 on July 29, 15 on March 15, etc. I’ve been asked if I’ll celebrate this golden day in a grand way, but I’m still thinking about it. I’m thinking a big gold-themed party or an intimate gathering. Let’s see! I still have at least six months to plan it. While I don’t feel any party pressure, I am feeling the turning-30 pressure. I’ll talk about that another time. /insert Twilight Zone music here.

#3. Cook, cook, cook. I was thinking about getting a new hobby or going back to old ones. Painting didn’t work out last year because of my lack of space. I wanted to get into Mosiac Art but I don’t think I have the patience. Then I remembered my stacks of cookbooks. ’06 wasn’t a cooking year for me. My kitchen is so small and not really inspiring enough for me to cook. I need space! I want to change that this year though. I have to cook something at least once a week. And that doesn’t include frying eggs or hotdogs. So far, I’ve cooked Pinoy-style spaghetti and Puttanesca this week. Quota reached!

#4. Bond with the home. We are moving yet again this year as our lease is up. I’m telling ya, it’s tiring to rent! But we do have our sights set on a cozy place within the same building where we live so hopefully everything works out. I intend to make it as homey as possible. Even if it’s rented space, it is still home for at least a year. Gotta make the most of it by bonding with the home.

#5. Read, read, read. I read a lot last year and plan to continue reading a lot in ’07. I read several books at a time. Right now, I’m reading The Queen of What If’s by Norma Klen, A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson and Aghora: At the Left Hand of God by Robert Svoboda.

What are you looking forward to in 2007? Tell me, tell me! Then let’s help each other out. Perhaps you have book recommendations or easy peasy recipes I can experiment with. Or you have 30 on 30 birthday ideas. Just drop me a line, share your own 2007 excitement and let’s help each other make this 2007 a great year.

One more thing, I’m looking forward to another year of great friendship and community with you. Thanks for reading Wifely Steps and for the correspondence. 😉 Happy New Year!

Happy, happy New Year! Great resolutions, those are things we need to work one every year! I started my reading list up again and although this one is a toughie, I am trying to let go of all expectations I have of my loved ones. Go figure!

    Golden Birthday, happy for you!

Hi Toni, Happy New Year. My cousin mentioned to me that she can’t believe she’s turning 30 in June. Yikes! In denial pa rin ako. As for “what to look forward to in 2007”, I answered that in your VOX. 😉

Happy New Year!!! Thanks for the tip about the golden year. It’s my golden year also as I’m turning 27 on Nov 27. Matagal pa!

By the way, why move again? Cant you stay in the same place? Or are you moving out cuz the rent is gonna be higher? I think rent should go lower because it will be your second year and if you have a good record with your land lord, you should get a discount because at least, on your 2nd year, he is assured that he has money for the rest of the year. Diba? Kung baga, para kang repeat purchase customer so dapat may discount! Hehehe!

Health and wealth…that’s a good way to start. Me, just in writing pa lang..Have not started my exercise routine yet. I think I will be looking around for a new gym. Good luck in your plans.
I love to read books too , I actually started a book blog so I can have a journal of what I’ve read. Its fairly new so it’ll take a while before I can get my list updated. I’ll send you a link for book reco.

Health and Wealth as well … I hope that we will be able to resolve some unresolved issues and be able to put up lots of money in the bank.

Oh so my golden birthday was decades years ago. 19 on October 19 😀

Good resolutions Toni I hope you stick to them.

I plan to read more books this year and with the recent difficulties of staying connected to the Internet, it gave me a good excuse to start the New Year by reading a book (“Among the Heroes” – non fiction about the passengers of United 93)

I suggest you add “Kite Runner” and “In the Walled Gardens” to your list. I am not sure if you are into books with unconventional settings like Afghanistan and Iran but personally I like this genre because they give us more insights into the lives of people in other countries.

Have a good week ahead. :)
