The internet thrives on generosity

by

“The internet thrives on the generosity of people,” my friend Peachy said. Interesting thought.

Look at YouTube. Wikipedia. Flickr. Blogs. Photobucket. Pandora. Myspace. Facebook. b5media blogs and the like. Widget creations. Scrabulous. These sites and applications flourish because of people who are willing to share their work, their art, their thoughts, their time. While not all motivations for sharing are the same, the fact is that somehow, somewhere, it connects with and helps others — whether it is just with one person or a vast number of people.

Even if there continue to be bogus sites and spammers, there are many communities that practice responsibility, fairness and integrity. It is through groups agreeing to uphold these values that the internet becomes a good example of cooperation and generosity.

So thanks guys. Thanks for sharing a little part of yourself online. Whether it is in the form of a free image, a how-to blog entry, a food review, technical resources, a funny video or a life reflection, you give me something new to learn every time I go online. Your generosity triggers ideas, inspires action, or just plain makes me laugh, making every day even more interesting,

It’s so true! The question is how do we give back?

    Share and share alike. :)

I’m also grateful for the people who generously share their ideas, photos, projects and services on the web. I always learn something new each day.
