Hosting the Archangels

Hosting the archangels. It sounds a little surreal, but it’s been one of the most enlightening experiences I’ve had this year. It involves opening your home to the archangels, inviting them to be part of your home (and your life) for 5 days, then sending them off to three people at the end of their stay. It’s a Pay It Forward kind of chain. I accepted my friend’s offer of hosting the archangels because a) I believe in angels, b) I welcome goodness into our home and c) I was curious! Here’s what my experience of hosting the archangels was like. Read more…

New York Dreaming (A Short Story)

New York Dreaming

In another life, I’d be in a brownstone. It would be nine am and I’d be running around the apartment while tying a scarf around my neck, crossing my fingers I don’t slip and strangle myself. My roommate would be finishing up her cereal in the kitchen, looking all zen as much as I look all frazzled… Read more…

20 Years of Friendship

20 Years of Friendship

20 years of friendship. I remember the first time I met each member of my college barkada (circle of friends). It mostly during freshman year orientation, with most of us coming from the same homeroom or the same course. We were all strangers but gravitated towards each other naturally. We were all a little nerdy, a little bit geeky, a little bit sarcastic. We all shared the same humor. We loved the same songs. Within a month, our group was formed. Who would’ve thought that in June 1994, this band of guys and girls would stay strong and connected through 20 years. It’s a beautiful blessing. Read more…

Cinnamon Rolls

“I grew up to taunts of my schoolmates, but paid them no heed. The victor was always me. Me licking the vanilla frosting off a strawberry cupcake. Me picking out dried apricots from my fruit bread. Me nibbling on the icing of a gingerbread cookie. My schoolmates would watch me rise from the ground and head over to my lunchbox, where I would find respite in my aunt’s baked goods. They would watch me take a bite out of each sweet but stood their ground. Pride kept them from wanting to ask if the raspberry filling of my pie tasted as good as it looked.” Read more…

New York Dreaming: My dream Airbnb Listing

AirBNB

NEW YORK has always fascinated me. It’s a dream destination of mine. Hollywood has played a big part in shaping my perception of the city. Most of my favorite TV shows are set in New York – Felicity. How I Met Your Mother. Friends. The Mindy Project. When my friends talk about their NYC trips, I grab some chips and just let them do the talking while I munch dreamily on my food. I’ve written about my desire to experience autumn in new york and my infatuation with the city. So when I learned about this Nuffnang and AirBNB contest, I just had to join it! The mechanics were simple: Choose a listing on Airbnb that you’d want to stay in, and share why you want to stay there. There was no question about the Airbnb listings I’d want to explore – they’d all be set in New York! Read more…
