Time for a Nap

Are you tired? I’m tired.

Do you still take afternoon naps? Given that I work in a corporate setting, there are hardly any moments to steal some sleep. During weekends, I’m usually too busy with housework or having fun. The last time I took a nap was more than three weekends ago. I fell asleep reading “Everybody Worth Knowing” and woke up two hours later, at around five o’clock in the afternoon. How refreshing!

I would want to nap on this hammock, to feel its comforting swaying and cradling. I want to feel the breeze on my face while I close my eyes and dream happy dreams.

When I was a kid, I took a lot of naps in the summer. My cousins and I would take our afternoon naps on a “banig” (mat) laid out on our grandparents’ living room floor. We would fall asleep to the song of the wind chimes and our grandma’s humming of “Yellow Bird.” We would wake up several hours later to servings of hot pan de sal and glasses of Milo on the dining table. Messy hair and all, my cousins and I would partake of that merienda feast; a reward for taking our naps. Then we would go play in the backyard while our grandfather watched PBA and our grandmother cooked dinner. Those days were so rich in their simplicity.

I wish I could take a nap. I wish I could take a nap and wake up to servings of hot pan de sal and a glass of Milo. Can you tell I’m tired? Yes, I’m very tired.

Ooh, that sounds like the loveliest way to nap (and wake up!).

I wish they would make siestas a feature of life worldwide. I think everyone would be much happier for it. :)

That said, I have had a nap recently…but it wasn’t on purpose. I keep falling asleep on the couch after work while the Boy is playing video games. When the game in question is Call of Duty 2 and there’s gunfire going off all over the place…I must be really tired. :)

I still take naps. I must say I am one of those who considers sleeping/napping a past-time/hobby. I have been known to sleep 14 hours in a day, have taken naps at work in my car for lunch and even in my seat for breaks (we’re very lenient at work). The best is taking naps with Woody though, in the middle of an afternoon. Those are nice. :-)

I would love to take a nap but then I get this nagging guilt that I should play with my son instead or fix our room or be doing something else.

Life used to be so simple. It’s funny how when we were kids we wanted to be grown ups and master of our life and now that we are, we crave for the simplicity of our childhood.

Oh dear. :( If it’s any consolation, I’m quite tired too. Been down with the flu since last Friday, can’t seem to shake it off. Noel had it first, but he’s better now but still not 100%. It’s this weird weather din kasi.

That hammock looks so enticing for an afternoon nap. Though I don’t know about you but for me napping or sleeping on a hammock isn’t exactly too comfy, I’m always wary of the fact that I might turn and fall down. Hehe
