Enchanted!

by

Enchanting Enchanted!I loved Enchanted! Ah, it’s been a long time since I saw a Disney movie that made me feel so good! It’s cheery and sweet, and definitely a movie for those who want to go for a little bit of Disney nostalgia. It’s reminiscent of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Best.

Enchanted is about an animated lady named Giselle (Amy Adams), who meets the Prince of her dreams, Edward (James Marsden). His evil stepmother (Susan Sarandon) feels threatened by Giselle however, and so thrusts her into a place where she says has “no happily-ever-afters”, present-day New York City.

Giselle tries to adjust to the sharp-edged modern world, without trying to lose her fairy tale maiden outlook. Happy endings do come, she believes, and this she teaches to a jaded attorney (Patrick Dempsey).

The songs were created by the acclaimed Alan Menken (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Under the Sea,” “Colors of the Wind,” etc.). Each song in the film is so feel-good. They’re the type of songs that make you sigh and want to sway along to the melody.

Spoilers after the jump!

One of my favorite songs from the movie is called “The Happy Working Song.” Here, Giselle tidies up a messy apartment. Don’t watch the video if you haven’t seen the movie and plan to see it!

I’ve been singing this in my head a lot! Now if only I could get some help in cleaning my home as well… *eyes her apartment windows*

While I super enjoyed the film, I only wish that:

(1) There was more James Marsden exposure. Man, that guy can sing! He was PERFECT for the role of Prince Edward as well. He’s got the looks, the charm and the swagger. I wish he had more scenes and did more singing!
(2) Idina Menzel sang. She’s a Tony Award winner for portraying Elphaba in the play Wicked. She also played Maureen in the movie version of RENT. She’s a brilliant singer! It’s a shame we didn’t get to hear her sing in the movie.

Amy Adams was brilliant. She totally understood how to portray a Disney princess. She is lovely, lovely, lovely. :) Patrick Dempsey was, of course, still dreamy as ever. Susan Sarandon was okay. The little girl who played Morgan was suuuper cute!

Overall, I had a good time with Enchanted. Another source of amusement for me during the film was my husband. He would look at me every now and then and teasingly whisper, “This is a Wifey movie!!!” Too saccharine for him, I suppose. I just laughed it off and enjoyed the fact I shared an hour and a half of sugar and spice with him, an hour and a half of enchanting songs and dialogue. Disney definitely is the best in creating such magical films!

I can’t wait to see it. It’s doing really well at the blockbuster’s list.

I thought it’d be just another kiddie movie. I was wrong! No wonder it’s doing so well. 😀 I guess it touched the kid inside every adult. :)

I watched it with BF over the weekend and he kept looking at me during the kilig scenes, hehe. Kinikilig din kase ako. Tapos I was humming the songs while were strolling sa mall after the movie. I love the happy working song, the major production in the park and the song they danced to in the ball. Super laughtrip when she called the animals in NY, haha sewer rats?!

    Awwww. Sweet! 😀

And yeah the sewer rats! Gross but endearing when they were helping out haha!

hindi ko yata kakayanin to be with rats and ipis in the same room, kahit na ba extra help sila to clean our mess, hehe. also, i almost died sa kilig when patrick sang to gisele while they were dancing – prince charming material talaga! and finally, i also appreciate how they debunked the idea of the princess as the proverbial “damsel in distress” – they sent a very empowering message to little girls na: you can be a princess, too, but you can also be smart, strong, brave, and independent. :)

I super love that moral lesson as well. Princesses don’t have to be weak and fragile. Kaya nga nagustuhan ko rin yun gift ni Patrick D sa anak niya — yun libro? 😀

Thanks for the tip on Avenue Q. Naghahanap na kami ng schedule!

Oh goodie! Aliw daw ang Avenue Q eh. Di ko pa napapanood but I’ve heard so many good things about it!

    I loved the movie too.

Got charmed by James Marden more than by McDreamy. His vocals are great.

Agree with Meeya about the ipis.

They have to add more songs to make it a Broadway musical. But the production at Central Park was wow!

If this is turned into a Broadway musical, I’d love to see it! Don’t know how’d they prepare the animation portion though.
