Mining the Blogging World

by

A simple rule for blog-hopping: If you don’t like it, don’t read it. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.

Simple. It’s all about respect. While bloggers cannot choose those who read their blogs, readers can choose to be helpful or not.

It is very difficult to find sincerity online. Over my past four years of blogging, I’ve made friends, lost some and made new ones again. Sincerity is a rare find in cyberspace. I’m blessed to have discovered some golden nuggets online.

There are those golden nuggets of sisterhood, transition, laughter, the power of the woman, growing together, becoming a good mother, sight, gentleness, home comforts, kindred spirits, a happy (not lonely) hearts club, rediscovery, consistency, song, family. And there are many more nuggets I have yet to find.

There are those hard rocks that get in the way. But as it is with blogging, just toss them aside and move on. If you don’t like ’em, don’t read ’em. Eventually you’ll find your golden nuggets, as I’ve found mine. See the right side bar and you’ll know what I mean.

“If you don’t like it, don’t read it. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” — i couldn’t agree more… and i couldn’t understand how some visitors gather the guts to leave nasty comments. suggestion are fine, but they have to carefully written so as not to offend the blogger.

thanks for being one of my blogger friends, you’re one of my golden nuggets :)

i agree!!! though I haven’t been victimized by nasty comments, I think it’s just basic courtesy to keep our mouth shut if what we have to say is not good.

and that doesn’t apply to the cyberworld only. i think the world could be a more peaceful place if we just learn to keep our mouths shut.

    hi toni.

great post. i love how you put it – “mining the blogging world”. i guess that’s really what it’s all about. you take all the good that blogging provides and you drop the rest.

i remembered, there’s this old neil young song that goes…

    “I want to live,
    I want to give
    I’ve been a miner
    for a heart of gold”

TinTin: Just let us know when you can meet us in Manila. :) I can’t wait to meet you too!

kala: And so are you =)

justice: piling-pili lang ang matitinong bloggers. isa ka dun 😀

    eye : DITTO!!!

diane: And you’re a golden nugget to me too my dear Timezone-playing pal!

jojo : Yes, that’s gotta go outside the blogging world too. I’d like to think that how one leaves comments online is how he/she would react to real life discussions.

Jeanny : Cheers to you too, sis!

BatJay: Just like you to link it to a song, a beautiful one at that! And yeah, it’s all about mining and digging here you know. Hirap din pero once you find that gold nugget (like you!), it’s worth the find!

Dude, I totally agree! It’s like what Thumper says (Thumper from Bambi):

If you cant say something nice…dont say nothing at all.

Sheesh…if a horny rabbit knows this already, why cant we all?

so agree with your words. The readers are not getting paid when they read another weblog, so they can read, and if they don’t like, then don’t comment as they don’t enjoy reading it at all. But since weblog has a commenting system, it will say that suggestion is needed. When the commenters are rude, it is not a suggestion, but I sometime have seen the rude weblogger who posted rude aswell, how about that? it is like waking up a wild lion, isn’t it? Well, i think, when we get a critic, rude comments, we have to be open minded unless if the commenters comment something that is not true at all, i meant, just want to insult the weblogger him/herself (if this is the case, commenting only to insult, off from the topic itself, the commenter is probably a paranoia *grin*)

anyway, nice blog and entries :)

echa: Thanks for your thoughts! I think that as long as comments are crafted constructively, sharing of opinions is fine.

A-freakin’-men to that Toni! so far, i haven’t encountered any “haters” in the blog world but i know of others who have and it’s a pity that they stop blogging just coz of these negative people who have no respect at all for every bloggers little nook in cyberspace. :(

oh and nice new look you got here :)

    amen!

there’r times though you want to hear what’s bad or some things you need to improve on. you can disagree without being disagreeable.

life is to be seen as a balance, a little of praise and a little bit of criticism. the secret is in moderation, including moderation itself.

toni, i read you loud and clear. and this couldn’t have been more timely than now.

ang ganda ng metaphor mo… mine blogging for what it is.

if there’s anything the last few weeks have taught me in the WEB of blogging, it’s that you just have to chuck judgemental people who think they have it made. yung mga people who can stand in judgement of other people at nagmamalinis.

kahit saan, whether in real life or not, mayrong life suckers at mayrong life givers. kaya swerte mo na rin talaga kung may loyal gold nuggets ka rin talaga sa tabi mo who will understand you no matter what. :)
