During a morning drive.
Me: “Husby, I put this poll on my blog about what readers want more of, and the top answer was Marriage Tips and Reflections.”
H: “Okay…”
Me: “Hmmm, do you have any ideas?”
H: “You can write about how keeping a cool head during fights helps. How one of you should keep it cool when the other is too upset. Like last night, at dinner, we were both angry. But you kept it cool while I was so mad. If you were as angry as I was, the night would have been ruined. So you can write about how one should keep cool.”
Me: “Got that. I think I wrote something like that before, but I’ll check.”
H: “How about playing video games together? How it keeps the fun in the relationship, especially when you’re a team.”
Me: “Also it could be like when I’m playing Sims on the computer but you’re playing DS. We’re together in the room and playing different games but we still talk.”
H: “There should always be fun! And try not to lose the boyfriend-girlfriend feel of it. Still keep the relationship playful.”
Me: “Even if we’re faced with more serious issues, we shouldn’t forget to relax.”
H: “When you’re both old, it’s still nice that you have fun together. Still be playful. Still be sweet to each other. Hey you can put pictures of old people together, sweet pictures.”
Me: (remembers a pic where my grandparents share a kiss… have no idea where that pic is now.)
H: “What else?”
Me: “That’s great na. Thanks Husbo.”
H: “Love you.”
Me: “Love you too.”

February 22, 2008 at 4:27 pm (16 years ago)thanks for this post, toni. i like the part when your husby said not to lose the ‘playfulness’ in the relationship.. my new responsibility as a mom took away that bit in our marriage. it’s a good reminder for me and R. thanks again to you and your husby! *hugs*
