The Gift of An Ordinary Day: Appreciate the small things

by

“The Gift of An Ordinary Day” by Katrina Kenison is so simple in its message but it brings the tears on every time I watch it. Thanks to Em for sharing this video with me. My son is turning 4 years old next month. I’m amazed everyday by how fast he’s changing. We do many things to chronicle milestones, and yup, everyday, every single day is a milestone in itself. Katrina Kenison is right. There is much to be cherished in these ordinary days. Sometimes the gift on an ordinary day is even the most treasured of all. Grab a tissue before watching this. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

If you’re at work, I bet you want to run home and be with your children. I sure did.

Appreciate the small things. Cherish the little ones. Chronicle not just first steps and first home runs, but everything in between.

Here’s a glimpse of ordinary days with my son. They are indeed the most special of gifts.

Timmy.Having major separation anxiety. 5 more days till Monday. The transition fr WAHM to corporate is tough.

My late talker is catching up. | 5 days before I went back to corporate.

Getting a different view on his reading. | Typical Sunday breakfast when he was younger.

Toddler fun.

Being silly.

Thank you, Katrina Kenison, for this inspirational reminder! It’s a very touching story that awakens us to the simple beauty of every day, whether it’s spent with our kids, parents, siblings, partners and other loved ones.

What is the gift of an ordinary day for you?

What is one thing that happened yesterday that you cherish? What about this morning was extra special, even if it wasn’t a major milestone? Do you chronicle your family’s everyday, whether big or small? Come share! Let me know as well if you did need a tissue while watching the video. 😉

I’ve seen her video a few times over before, and I’m touched every time I watch it, how much truth there is in her video! I’m glad the video is still being shared… it really makes a lot of sense and allows us parents to really appreciate the simple ordinary day-to-day happenings.
Thanks to social media, I even get to share and appreciate those little things everyday – via IG and my blog. :)

I do! I do! I always do. But good thing she’s already in school so wala na din akong uuwian during midday haha (excuse!). Have you read the book? That’s the first book I finished from cover to cover ata in just a month (a rare accomplishment for me) since I became a mom).

Notyet! I’ll go look for the book and then read it when I’m alone. Will also make sure I have a box of tissues right beside me!

With my 2 older daughters, I have photos of them in albums… with an S talaga. When my hubby was starting our small family then, no IG, nor facebook or whatever social media, uso pa nun ang photos that was to be developed… (now a very looong time ago…hahaha!), and since tipid mode kami that time, I usually put in the albums all of my daughters pictures… I even made them their own scrapbooks. Yup, matiyaga ako that time… And now with all the social medias available it is easier to share and “keep” all the videos. With my youngest naman, one of the many milestones my family loves is when she learned to sing the National Anthem. Naku! Hindi namin maintindihan ang lyrics talaga. Until now every time I watch it, I can’t help but really laugh out loud. One day I will make my youngest her own album so that it will be easier for her to see every milestone, every little thing she has done when she was still a kid. :)

That’s so true. We tend to store our pictures online more with the convenience of social media. It’s still different to have printed photos though. Quite an investment nowadays but definitely worth it. We can easily flip through albums; no need to start up the computer and go online!

I totally agree with you that the video never looses its magic :) No matter how many times I’ve watched it, I keep on crying every.single.time. And in as much as I wanted to share the vid with my MIL, ayaw ni husband. Baka daw hindi ko mapatigil sa pag-iyak ang mommy.

Which reminds me.. I have yet to update my blog so that when the time comes that my little one is old enough to read and understand, she’ll be able to see how gaga her mommy could be even on the silly little things. Hehehe.

I’ve seen this before and I felt so happy that I actually do treasure the ordinary days not just with my son but with people who matter to me. I always take photos of random moments and I know that sometimes, its not the big events or occasions but the small everyday things that make things better.

Absolutely. Taking photos of these random moments are more common now, so not an ordinary moment is missed! As much as possible that is.

This is truly touching! The ordinary and small things you can do today with your kids will have a great impact later on when you will reminisce those times with your little ones especially if their grown-ups already. It’ll be missed and memories will bring good laughter. Cherish every second. AAWWW! this made me cry
