There’s a Kid in the House!

Crayon drawings on the living room wall, chips and dents on the coffee table.
Alphabet magnets on the refrigerator door, cereal on the floor’s become a staple.

Balls mark the spot in every room, racing cars hide under pillows.
Storybooks sit side by side newspapers, Lego figures lurk behind throws.

There’s a kid in the house and it’s crazy! There’s a mess left and right, here and there!
There’s a kid in the house, it’s amazing! I love seeing such joy everywhere!

Crayon drawings show a budding Picasso, table dents are from toy animals playing.
Alphabet magnets are in correct order, cereal signs show how well he is eating.

Balls rest between bursts of his energy, racing cars are one in his slumber.
Storybooks take him on adventures, Legos are mixed and matched under covers.

There’s a kid in the house and it’s crazy! There’s a mess left and right, here and there!
There’s a kid in the house, it’s amazing! I love seeing such joy everywhere!

The best part of being a Mom, I believe, is nurturing your child and seeing how he blossoms. Right now I see my son bloom in the way he speaks, the way he acts, and most of all, by the way he plays. I love watching him play with his Lego figures and act out scenarios, shouting out scenes from his mind like nobody’s watching. That’s a tip I learned from my child that brings so much joy: Play like nobody’s watching!

After playtime there is always a mess. It’s easy to get annoyed by it, but more and more, I’m beginning to see the joy in his toys all over the house. It’s a constant reminder that there’s a kid in the house, a little boy who brings so much joy into our every day.

It’s true that “nakakatanggal ng pagod pag may bata sa bahay.” A child at home takes away all your weariness. There’s no feeling like coming home after a hard day’s work to a smiling little boy, his arms wide open, eager to jump into your arms. It reminds me why I’m here, why I work, why life is so complicated yet so simple at the same time. A child makes you feel all kinds of peaceful. I thank my son for that.

I’ll take the crayons on the wall, the Legos that surprise me under the blankets at night. I’ll embrace the chips on the table, and the little pieces of cereal on the floor. Everything can be put back in place and wiped away. What stays are the joy and the fuzzy feelings that a child in the home brings.

There’s a kid in the house, it’s amazing. I love seeing such joy everywhere!

I can totally relate! :) No matter how carefully I curate our coffee table, there will always be a few toys strewn together with the objets d’art and coffee table books. :) I also find dinosaurs amidst my flower arrangements, and bionicles under my desk. Oh, and the surprise of sitting on the sofa when there’s a robot stuck in between the cushions! hahahahah!

Haha! Even in the bedroom! I was comfortable lying in bed one evening. Then when I rolled over, a Lego block greeted my tummy “Hello!”. I’m treasuring these little moments because in a few years I’m sure my son won’t be co-sleeping with us anymore. Huhuhu.

I find this poem really beautiful — so simple yet so heartfelt. The joy in a mother’s heart, the poem says it all!

My youngest is growing up fast. I actually fear the day when my household loses the wails and whistles of the children. =<

Thank you so much. *hugs* Take lots of pics of the walls! Better yet, break down a part of the wall. I’m serious! I saw that in a blog somewhere. They literally broke down the wall and saved the part where the kid drew on it. Then they carried that piece with them as they moved from house to house!

it’s really heartwarming to see you celebrate motherhood with this poem! it’s really beautiful. :) specially when i often read all these things about the newer generation preferring not to have kids to “live their lives to the fullest”. i hope you encourage and inspire more people to be open to the joys of parenthood (as you do to me), no matter how crazy it seems to the rest of the world. :)

Thanks bursky. :) Let’s all stay in touch with the kid in us so we’re sure that our kids enjoy their childhood to the max!
