Recommended books and a reading challenge

by

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.”
— George R.R. Martin (A Dance With Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5))

One of my new year resolutions was to read more. While I’ve loved reading books for as long as I can remember, the past years have been pretty dry in reading land for me. Stress does that I suppose. This year, I wanted to get my bookworm groove back. Thanks to e-readers, I’ve read more books in five months than I did for the whole of 2012.

Reads
Currently reading: Talking to Girls About Duran Duran by Rob Sheffield
The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen

Here’s a list of books I’ve read so far this 2013 and how I rated them. I recommend any of the books with 3 to 5 stars.

Read in January:

Read in February:

Read in March:
* Wasn’t able to finish any books this month! Must do better in following months. *

Read in April:

Read in May:

Read in June:

I’m currently reading the two books in the picture above — Rob Sheffield’s book, Sarah Dessen’s newest one and not pictured is Charles Bukowski: Locked in the Arms of a Crazy Life by Howard Sounes.

Are you up for a reading challenge? GoodReads has a reading challenge widget that helps you keep track of your progress. You can set your own goal and update the site as you finish reading. I use the GoodReads iPhone app for that. I’m targeting to read 50 books by end of the year and so far I’ve read 20! Woohoo! Do you have a reading goal for this year too?

I’m currently reading House of Secrets which was recommended by JKRowling. Chris Columbus wrote the book.

I read Sophie Kinsella’s Wedding Night but didn’t like it at all. Hester Browne’s Runaway Princess is much better.

    Up next: Elite and Selection

Thanks Em! Making a note of these book recommendations of yours :)

I have a love-hate relationship with the Internet because it kinda steals my reading time, but at the same time, I know it helped me meet some of the nicest friends I have, both Real and Imaginary.
    *nudge-nudge, wink-wink*

On the (invisible) nightstand: Ayn Rand’s ANTHEM :)

Am I an imaginary friend? LOL!

yey!!! i love that you gave 5 out 5 for THE FAULT IN OUR STARS. i super duper love that book. to be honest the past summer I have read a lot as well. I am just finishing this book titled JUST ONE DAY by GAYLE FORMAN…. do I like it? medyo-medyo, kasi dun sa last few chapters halos nagkaroon ng pacing… about Every Day by David Levithan, it took me a while as well to get the hang of it. hahaha! among the books listed, I have always wanted to read A LOVER’S DICTIONARY, heard good reviews too… and yes I do have GoodReads too… for me reading is kinda relaxing and at the same time i could learn new words and my imagination is totally used. hehehe!

I have Just One Day but haven’t started on it. Wala pa ako sa mood 😛

I have a GoodReads account Toni – I target 2 books a month so far I’m doing good.
If you like the Hunger Games series, you might like the Divergent series by Veronica Roth.
Silver Linings Playbook was good as well.

    Augustus!
‘Nuff said :) (Did you know they are making it into a movie?)

    Here’s my list:

I like that monthly goal! Maybe I should try that.

Thanks for the reco on Silver Linings Playbook. That’s a must-read before watching the film.

I’ll look into Divergent! Thanks for the reco.

YES! AUGUSTUS! I’m keeping tabs on movie development. :) Can’t wait to see who they case for Isaac too. In my head it’s someone who looks like Paul Dano.
