Memory Crafters: Canvas Beach Bag

Memory Crafters was one of my Holy Week break highlights. I was one of their contest winners last month and got sent this beautiful box of crafting projects. As soon as the break began, I opened the box and got straight to crafting! Woohoo! It’s been a long time since I did any crafting, so the Memory Crafters prize was a good way to rekindle my love for arts and crafts.

Memory Crafters is a box subscription service where a box of crafting projects is sent to you every month that you can enjoy or give as a gift. My box had a summer theme. In it were three crafting projects: a summer bag, sunglasses pouch and a lei.

My First Memory Crafters Project

I got started on the beach bag right away. There was a fabulous canvas bag ready to be painted, a set of awesome acrylic paints, two paintbrushes, a mixing plate and 2 sheets with suggested patterns. It came with instructions too!

Quite some time was spent thinking about what to paint! Do I paint a floral pattern? Go nautical? Hmmm… since this summer bag was definitely going to be for Timmy and myself, I decided to go with what Timmy loves so much: the alphabet!

With a pattern in mind, I reached for implements around the house to bring my design to life. There was the coaster to plot out the alphabet sets…

… followed by Timmy’s wooden alphabet toys that were my patterns. I had a lot of fun putting this together! Timmy is SUPER into all kinds of alphabet songs now, and this bag is definitely one way to mark that milestone of alphabet loving.

When I had traced all the letters, the fun part began! PAINTING! When I was a kid, I loved painting. Art class was one of my favorite parts of school, and I was a member of the Visual Arts Club throughout high school. After high school, I stopped doing arts and crafts. Memory Crafters has rekindled my love for painting.

What letter takes center stage? Why, the best letter there is, of course! T is for TIMMY! (Toni too, but more Timmy!)

It took me a couple of hours to finish painting the summer bag. There was a break to tuck my son in for naptime, another break to calm him down because he woke up from his nap, and another break to eat. Crafting made me hungry! By the time I was done, night time had settled.

Hurrah! Putting my summer bag together was so fulfilling. I realized how awesome arts & crafts is in helping detach me from my laptop (except Instagram – I was taking pictures and monitoring my progress!). It was so wonderful to see it come to life. When Timmy woke up from his nap, I immediately showed our bag to him and he read the alphabet off the bag with gusto.

The next day, I took the bag out for a spin! It was so roomy I could fit a LOT of stuff in the bag. :)

This may be a summer bag, but I’m definitely using this bag year-round! Thank you, Memory Crafters, for this wonderful way to enjoy arts & crafts.
