Couple theme songs: Keeping the love alive

by

Random question from my husband, on our drive to work:

Husband: “Wifey, what was your theme song with your first boyfriend?”
Me: (thought balloon: Where is this coming from?) “Till Death Do Us Part by White Lion. Ironically.”
Husband: “What about your other boyfriends?”
Me: “Wala! None! Why are you asking me this?”
Husband: “Nothing. Just curious.”
Me: “What about us? Do we have a theme song?”
Husband: “Yes. The one by Mandy Moore.”
Me: “Only Hope? Why?”
Husband: “From our first movie together.”
Me: “I thought it was Best in Me! Diba you said that was your song for me before and then we said that was our theme song?”
Husband: “Hmmm.”
Me: “Do you remember?”
Husband: “Hehe, no.”

Keep the love alive with couple theme songs

So we do have a theme song, but apparently we had different ones in mind. We’ve been married for ten years, by the way!

Couple theme songs: If your love were a song, what would it be?

A couple theme song is a song you associate with your partner or your relationship. Back in high school, it was considered so romantic to have that shared song with your partner. Sometimes theme songs from boyfriend-girlfriend days become even more iconic for the couple when they play it during their wedding. The couple theme song could be played when the bride walks down the aisle, at the recessional, or as their entrance to the reception. Sweet, right? A little cheesy too, I must admit.

When relationships don’t work out, the high you get from that theme song becomes painful (if you’re still not over it) or humorous (the irony of my first couple theme song ever comes to mind). My sisters still get a kick out of that Till Death song when we hear it on the radio. I expect to be a target of their teasing when that happens. It can’t be helped! We get a good laugh out of it.

Do young couples nowadays still have theme songs? I ask because it feels like an older generation’s thing.

Do you have a theme song with your partner? Come on and share! The cheesier your couple theme song story is, the better! While you ponder on that, I leave you with our not one, but TWO theme songs. 😉

Only Hope by Mandy Moore

The scene is from her 2002 movie “A Walk to Remember”. It was originally sung by Switchfoot in 1999. Here they are singing it live:

Beautiful, ‘no? Now here’s what I thought our theme song was:

Best in Me by Blue

So what’s YOUR couple theme song? Share, share! Post the lyrics too! 😉

You guys are so cute! My husband and I love music, and once upon a time he was a singer and I was their band manager. Our “official” theme song is After All by Cher and Peter Cetera, from that Robert Downy Jr movie, Chances Are. That’s coz we’ve tries to run away from each other so many times in the past, but always found ourselves running back to one another. Cheesy, right! Lol.

we have lots of couple theme songs! we’re cheesy that way hahaha.
we have so much that on our wedding day, our giveaway was a CD containing our songs which we personally produced–labour of love talaga! it included: “I love you more today than yesterday”, “Accidentally inlove”, “Come What May” and “I could not ask for more”.

and until now, we’d find a song that we like and when we hear it, we’d sheepishly say “kanta ko yan for you” sabay kilig na parang teenagers hahaha.

My husband and I don’t have a theme song, we don’t even have endearments for each other. Weird ba? But I remember one time when Passenger Seat by Stephen Speaks was playing, he kinda dedicated it to me. So, I thought that was our theme song. But then we were called to join a game at a wedding where couples were tested by questions, apparently, for him, we have no theme song. Oh well!

At least he dedicated Passenger Seat to you. That’s a sweet song. :) Sabihin mo nalang yan ang theme song niyo sa ayaw at sa gusto niya, hehe.

hahaha!!! OM!!! with my first boyfriend, your theme song, was ours as well. hahaha!!! and now that I’m married, our theme song, is WHAT MATTERS MOST by Kenny Rankin… here are a few of the lyrics….
“It’s not how long we held each others’ hand.
What matter is how well we loved each other.
It’s not how far we traveled on our way
but what we found to stay.

It’s not the spring you see
but all the shades of green.
It’s not how long I held you in my arms.
What matter is how sweet the years together.

It’s not how many summer times we had to give to fall
and early morning smile we tearfully recall.
What matters most is that we love at all!”

    this is ours… hehehe!

Good Question … the answer to which is I don’t really know, for sure. 😀
I always thought it was “So Happy Together” the David Cook version. But when I heard it on the radio and said to my hubby that is our theme song, right? He shrugs and says he doesn’t believe in having theme songs, so corny daw. *Pouts*
Then upon seeing my face, he adds what is more important is we have each other and so we don’t need a theme song to define our marriage. He he he =) I agreed na nga just to end the topic!
