When hope comes alive

by

Back in 2005, my husband and I didn’t have a child. We both wanted one, but the road to having a baby was a tough one. In that same year, we bought a Jimmy Neutron doll. Jimmy Neutron is a character from Nickelodeon. He’s a genius little kid who loves to invent things and hang around with his best friends, Carl and Sheen. We loved watching Jimmy Neutron on TV, so when we saw this toy, we had to buy it. The cute thing about this doll is it has a little backpack, which opens up to be a book. Super cute.

But it’s a kid’s toy, right? Right. When my husband and I bought it, we kept it in its plastic casing and displayed it on our bookshelf. Someday, we said, we’ll give this to our future child. We’ll give it to our future Timmy.

Buying that toy was one way for my husband and I to keep hoping. In 2009, our son was born. Jimmy was finally taken out of his plastic casing. This year, we put him in Timmy’s bookshelf. Jimmy looks right at home, doesn’t he?

8 years later, this little toy is in the hands of our little boy. Timmy enjoys reading the small book. Every time the backpack opens up to reveal a hidden book, he gives me a big smile.

While this Jimmy Neutron doll reminds me of the tough times we had when we were trying to have a baby, it also reminds me that happy endings (or happy new beginnings) do come true. Just keep hoping. Sometimes it helps to see that manifestation of hope. In our case, it was a little toy that sat on our bookshelf that ended up in the hands of our own little boy many years later. It’s truly a blessing, one that we are immensely thankful for. Miracles do happen. You just have to keep on hoping. You just have to keep believing that hope, your hope, will come alive.

And I’m sure Jimmy neutron is also glad that Timmy’s there to enjoy him. Nice post, Toni. Great encouragement to your readers on a start of a new week… Hope springs eternal :-)

Thanks Jenn! I’m sure Jimmy is glad to be out of our adults’ bookshelf and has found his home in Timmy’s kiddie bookshelf, where he truly belongs. Have a great week! :)

Very nice story! :) It’s just like Under The Tuscan Sun, where they built train tracks even if there were still no trains in their time, because they knew the trains would come :)

What a cute story that is! I’ve seen the film but can’t recall the scene. Must watch it again.

Awww…. That’s a great way to keep the hope alive and burning. It’s cool that you and your hubby have a character that you both like. Love the backpack!

We have a lot of favorites! Jimmy Neutron is just one of our shared faves :)

Wow such a heartwarming story, one you can pass on to your grandkids! =)

When I got married at the age of 40, my expectations of being a mother were very low. It just went further down whenever I drank my fertility meds and had to endure daily injections. A period of 3 very stressful years. I pasted this magazine cover of a cute baby by my bedside table to serve as inspiration. I will be 45 this year and I have learned to accept my limitations. But seeing that image every day when I wake up puts a smile on my face and makes the days pass by with ease.

That’s beautiful, Daphne. Hope manifests in various ways!

Love this! And I especially love the bookshelf filled with books. I’m still working on Harvey’s bookshelf as he hasn’t shown much patience in sitting through books yet. He prefers fliiping the pages really fast. :)

Haha! Timmy still speed-flips through his books. I’m trying to teach him to slow down and relish the images on the page slowly. Key word is ‘trying’.
