Wake me up when October ends

by

Wake me up when October ends? It’s been a tough past few weeks. The flu bug hit our home and our offices, leaving me unspared. My Grandma got mild pneumonia, my son got acute bronchitis, and various members of the family had cough, colds, fever and the overall bad mood that comes with being sick. DUDE. October was off to a terrible start.

Sea Coconut. It's been helping me with my cough and colds. Very soothing! Bought from a Chinese medicine store in SM North. Wake me up when October ends.
Just one of the things that helped with the sickness.

Wake me up when October ends, please?

I learned that one of the hardest things about being a Mom is taking care of your sick child while you yourself are sick. I’m thankful that Timmy’s a lot better now, but since I hardly got any rest while caring for him (PLUS I was going to work), I’ve still got aches and pains, plus a little cough and colds. I wish this would just go away, but I know I’m not doing my body any favors by not staying in bed.

Nonetheless, we have to look at the bright side right? The past week saw me and Timmy spending a whole lot of (sick) time together. I’m thankful my family has also been there to watch him while I worked. Relationships and patience really get tested when everyone at home is sick! It’s crazy.

Breakfast comfort food for me and Timmy. We're both sick! Sigh.
Comfort food for me and Timmy: Cereal and milk, plus lots of fluids

To add insult to injury, I went on fieldwork last week and ended up with two arms full of insect bites. Again, wake me up when October ends, please?

There’s been something I’ve been meaning to do once I’m all over these sniffles. I plan to cut my hair short to get rid of all these negative vibes. Now the challenge is finding time to do that, plus making it to the salon without sneezing. We don’t want to end up with bloody ears and a jagged haircut, do we?

So yup, there’s been quite a big bug going around. I still feel a little cold and just want to snuggle up in bed while wrapped up in my blanket burrito-style. What an October, really. What an October.

Thinking Positive…

The good things about getting sick while at home: I was able to organize Timmy’s bookshelf and our study area. I was able to get more sleep. I was able to work from home on some days. I was able to take care of Timmy myself on the days I was home. It’s just annoying that I HAD to be sick to be able to have done all that.

How’s your health? Were you hit by the bug also? Stay safe, everyone. Be well. Drink lots of water, lots of vitamin C and sleep a lot!

Last month, believe it or not I got caught MEASLES, yup at my age I got it. I was sick for 2 weeks. It was difficult for me cause I AM THE ONE DOING EVERYTHING since I don’t have any help. But on the brighter side, I have seen how RESPONSIBLE my 2 older daughters, especially my eldest. She really took care of me. And now as October begins, I am crossing my fingers that my health, as well as my kids, will be on the “good” side. Hoping you will feel better soon. Take care always.

Woah! Measles! That’s tough. That’s great you’re better now, and that you had your two older daughters to help out. Be well!

My Mom bought it from a Chinese store at The Block (I think it was Century Chinese Drug Store) and each bottle cost about P175++. :)

Great! Drink it when you’re feeling a sore throat na so it doesn’t escalate to anything worse.

I’m glad you’re feeling better now, Toni. My son and daughter both got the cold/cough. Connor is getting over it and I think Aria as well but that translates to some sleepless nights for me and the hubby. Oh the joys of parenthood. I know one day we will look back at these days and miss it. Do you usually get the flu shot? All 4 of us got it last week. That’s one thing we always get every year.

Take care of yourself Toni :-) Drink lots of water too. I totally agree with my friend whe she said that once the -BER months come in, everything will pass by so quickly. I hope these sick episodes will be over soon. As for my past week blues ( too much unfinished work!) , I’m just thankful for the clear skies last Sunday, Rio and I had a quick bonding time walking around UP Diliman campus.

Seeing the title of your post made me remember last year. It was our (hubby and I) line last year, not because of health reasons but bec of financial reasons naman haha.
My daughter was not spared and had to skip school for a day or two. Good thing she was okay before exam week. You’re right, we need to see the positive in every situation.

My kids and I got the flu bug this month, too. A couple of weeks ago to be exact. My flu came back this week naman… that’s why today, am working from home because I still don’t feel like dressing up for work. Let’s pray the rest of the month will be kind to us. :)

I got sick AGAIN! Not as bad as last month’s bug but sick nonetheless. It’s like the bug is just making rounds. Grabe! I hope you and the kids are healthy. :)
