Ultimate Taste Test 2013: A few weeks back, my sisters and I dropped by this food fair and stuffed ourselves silly. It was a really good way to get oriented with new merchants and their awesome dishes. We had gone last year and had an awesome time, so we were super excited for Ultimate Taste Test’s 3rd year. Off to Rockwell we went!

All those who enter here will gain at least 5 pounds…
When you register, you’re given a scoresheet and a map of the tent. This serves as your passport. Each time you visit a merchant, they put a stamp on your passport and give you a sample of their food. You then rate their food on your passport (5 highest, 1 lowest). You’re literally a food critic for a day.
There were a lot of yummy eats at the Ultimate Taste Test. Let me share with you my top four:
Ultimate Taste Test Lovin’

Super Yummy Ube Pandan from Uni-Chefs
Uni-Chefs was the second stall I visited. That Ube Pandan cake lasted me my WHOLE round during the Ultimate Taste Test. I did not want to finish it. I wanted to RELISH it. I wanted to savor every delicious morsel. We could only get one sample each so I had to make mine last. Totally gave Uni-Chefs 5 out of 5 for this!

Refreshing Basil Ice Cream from Jack Frost
I’ve recently written about Jack Frost’s Basil Ice Cream. That’s how good this Basil Ice Cream is! You don’t stop at the food fair for samples — you go out of your way to look for it in stores! 5 out of 5!

General’s Lechon: OML! Oh My Lechon!
This lechon was so friggin’ good. I tried it without the sauce or vinegar that was offered. A really good lechon should taste good on its own. That’s exactly what I got with General’s!!! The skin was yummy, the meat so tasty… gah. I wanted more. 5 out of 5!

Hotdogs from Schmidt’s
Japanese hotdogs with green curry? Who would’ve thought they’d go together so well? Props to Schmidt’s for this! Super yum. 5 of 5!
Now the following dishes didn’t get 5 stars, but I super enjoyed them because they were giving a new foodie experience.

Bagnet Paella by Flavor Avenue
Hamwich by The Plaza Premium Baked Ham
Chicken and bacon ravioli with tomato sauce and cheese by Butter Nuggets
Specialty Ice Cream by Cream of the Crop
Shmallows Marshmallow Spread by Shmallows
The Original Monkey Bread by Ruby Red Kitchen
Malagos 65% Dark Chocolate & Malagos Chocolate Drink by Malagos Agri-Venture Corp.
The Patriot by Bad Decisions Premium Burgers
There were a couple of drinks for tasting as well but I wasn’t able to take a picture of them. I do remember giving 5 out of 5 to one drink in particular. San Miguel Premium All-Malt!

What’s your choice?
I ran into my dear friend Spanky, who was the event’s host! The last time I saw Spanky was at last year’s Ultimate Taste Test too. Funny coincidence!

Foodie Friends
The Ultimate Taste Test is also a contest. The top merchants who get the highest ratings will be featured in Our Awesome Planet, which will surely boost awareness for their brands. There are a couple more prizes from Power Plant Mall.
So exciting! There were so many yummy appetizers, entree samplers, drinks and desserts. It’d be super to find out who the winners are. I’m also looking forward to the next Ultimate Taste Test! 😉
