There is Truth in the Rain (A Short Story)

by

Rain

Trying to catch our breath from
laughing and sprinting through the rain

Once safe from the thunderstorm but not
quite dry, we paused
watching the thick drops hit the windshield.

It was the first time we were alone
where no one could see us
(zero visibility)
where no one would find us
(they knew what we did not)

Alone,
the rain stripped away denial, timidness,
and most of all
fear.

After trying to catch our breath
from
getting to know you’s
coffee conversations
late night tweets
quiet looks
unspoken infatuation
laughing and sprinting through the rain

we kissed.
